Pitting on right side, pitting on left
It would have to have been stored in salt water for a long time, or submerged - perhaps in a flooded safe after a tidal swell etc
From the first look, I was pretty sure I wouldn't be offering my money for it

I’m thinking it got splattered with acid and left on for at least a few days.
Even just ketchup and mustard will do devilish things to metal.

I saw a revolver that was left hanging in a holster. A headlight above it had a leaking battery that did tremendous damage to the gun. Just a regular 6 Volt Battery that was left sitting too long...
