17-4 is better at being strong than it is at being resistant to corrosion, however 17-4 is one of the best heat-treatable stainless steels for corrosion resistance
Still
Like I noted above, dude had to leave it in a pool of horse piss in order to get it to pit like that

I once bought a Dozier knife in D2 that had gotten pretty rusty. Cleaned up well with no pitting. Have to assume someone cleaned that FA up too - leaving only the pitting. Would assume it had to look pretty bad at one point. Does make you worry about internals.
