One of my buddy’s told me he experienced flyers using PC and lube on his cast slugs. My limited tests show no such. Anybody got any thoughts or experiences to share? Does the Lube work without PC, does the PC work without Lube?

jeffh, that's very unusual or strange to me that your bullets seat hard and squeak then too! I wonder if Dick has that same issue with the seating? jeffh you don't get squeaking when seating jacketed bullets right?
It doesn't seem to be causing any problems, but it's odd...
I haven't loaded or shot a jacketed pistol bullet in eons, but I never remember that happening. They glided in smoothly.
sixshot, I use the same expander for cast, which .001" larger sometimes.
One of my primary objectives is to be LESS "technical" about it. The current experimentation is meant to find the simplest way, using the least amount of gizmos. I'd avoid PC altogether if I find that my invisible tumble lube won't bake onto the insides of my suppressor. I have one 148 grain WC 357 load, which duplicates 38 Spl target loads, which I can tumble-lube and seat as-cast, from any ol' mongrel "alloy" in unsized cases and it covers 95% of my needs from the carbine. If I need something stiffer, I cast air-cooled wheel weights in a heavier bullet with a gas check. My goal is to be able to cast and load with what I can stuff into a lunch-box-sized package.
The Cape Buffalo part indicates vast differences in our needs. We don't have those here and I don't go lookin' for them!
I've always thought that would be the ultimate hunting experience though. Even pictures of those things can be intimidating.
Quick story, (I know,....): I went through Anniston, Alabama several times - on a timeline. I discovered they had a natural history museum, so on one trip, I specifically made time to stop. You meander through several dioramas, which are really nice, before you come to the African diorama, which is around a dark corner. When you get around the corner, you are staring a full-sized, taxidermied cape buffalo right in the snout. You know danged well that thing's dead and stuffed, but the way it stares at you, with the most absolute contempt, yet utter indifference, makes you feel like the lowest life-form on earth and that your complete and full extermination, with extreme prejudice, is the ultimate imperative, and irreversibly IMMINENT. I've been around some very large and very scary dairy bulls, and they never induced the pucker-factor like that dead thing did. Took me a week to work the knot out. And it was DEAD.

The fellow you mention that use to be on castboolits forum is my neighbor, Lamar. Very knowledgeable & technical guy, much like bulletdesigner. Also Lamar isn't into powder coating that I'm aware of, he's got enough bullet lube to supply the whole USA. Cape Buffalo can get your heart pumping, when we started after this herd a big bull charged us out of the brush. We were still in the Land Rover & Werner was able to shift gears & out run it but it got very close before we even seen it. I wasn't scared but he was Dick

"Is it not a reasonable question? And you almost have it right. What bullet lube is supposed to do is create a “grease gasket” between the bullet lead and the barrel steel and escort the cast bullet out of the muzzle. This occurs when the sixgun doesn’t have say oversized throats or restriction in the bore. That PC bullets will shoot well out of such a sixgun proves that PC can mask dimensional deficiency in your sixgun. "
You said it in a much better way than I did. I like the term; "grease gasket!" Perfect description.
