Hmmmm. looking like the Skeleton steel butt plates are made of unobtainium... unless anyone has a line on one...
considering a thick buffalo horn butt plate?

Talked to stock maker, forgot about the hole down the middle to attach to the receiver probably better off looking at the buffalo horn butt plate

This is the "grade" of wood, I'm looking at ( these are not #1's or #3's, but are the "grade of wood I'm looking at )... since this rifle is going to be silver when done, I'm leaning towards the darker colors for contrast, & it will be pistol grip, with the grip cap described above

was leaning towards a Buffalo horn butt plate, but depending... if the wood is dark enough, I may decide to do a black Pachmayr with white line liner

Ordered a piece of English Walnut today, pistol grip and cheek rest… standard fore end, with an Ebony Schnabel tip, from Treebone Carving ( it will be the same wood as the bottom rifle in the picture above which is the English Walnut, but will be the butt shaped like the top rifle in that picture, with the shadowline cheek rest, & the pistol grip shape )

480 grip cap for the stock is done... it's in the white, so either gets blued or blackened. or coated in silver, that will depend on how it looks on the stock ( how dark the actual stock ends up )

might look nice coloring the engraving silver, after bluing the grip cap ( this shop does a really black looking bluing, or it least it has been on several previous projects ) actually today, thinking about a checkered Winchester Model 70 style butt plate, refinished to match the grip cap

Treebone carving sells these Butt plates new... so I added one to my order... www.treebonecarving.com/buttplates-buttplate-screws-forearm-lug.htmlthinking dark blued for both the grip cap, & butt plate, with the engraving filled with silver Same shop redid the top break S&W in this picture, ( 2nd from the top ), so that at least was the color of bluing they did at the time, & they filled the script engraving on that revolver with gold color... so I'm pretty sure they can do my grip cap in silver fill

getting all the evolution done before it goes to the gun smith... I bought a set of these Konus quick release steel rings, www.midwayusa.com/product/1024972273?pid=383942 & a Leupold VX Freedom 1.5-4 X 20, MOA Ring scope, for sometimes use... also plan on the Williams Ace in the Hole rear base, to mount the scope, & it includes the Fire Sight Ghost ring at the rear... I got the banded front sight base, a quick change fiber optic front sight, & a fiber optic hood for the front banded base... ordered the stock described earlier, with the Winchester style steel butt plate, that will be blued, the fore end will have the ebony Schnabel tip, the engraved grip cap will also be blued, with the engraving silver color filled... rifle action & barrel, will be silver Duracoated, with the hammer, safety, & lever done in black, to match the rear rail, & butt plate & Grip cap, as well as the hood for the front sight... all the parts are here now, except the Treebone Carving wood, which should be out another couple weeks... hoping this is going to be a "doll" when it's done, yet durable enough for several bucket list hunts

My stock & fore arm, & the butt plate get shipped out today... anxious to see them this is the last of the components I've been waiting for, so all the parts will go to the gunsmith in January, then the long wait begins... they expect it will be completed in 6-12 months

Just read this thread. Have a #3 coming for a similar project I like the ebony schnabel. Have it on a Merkel Stutzen
I may go a full stock if I can get some one to photoshop it.
I like short a barrel …….the other touches are nice too.
Especially the front sight.
Thanks for the writeup
