I've not been able to get a hold of Legendary Action Works, & their website will not allow me to complete the safety button purchase... I sent an e-mail to contact them, but not gotten a reply lately...
with all the challenges to do business the last couple years, I'm hoping they are just out hunting... anyone gotten anything from them lately???
I'd really like the safety button to go with the rest of the parts to the gunsmith...

A common alternative is to trim the front extension on the factory safety. I think having it case colored would look especially nice on a blued gun.

from what I've seen, trimming the factory safety button, leaves a groove exposed in the receiver... I think the LAW safety button is tapered to cover that groove... I've not looked at it in detail on my rifle, but if pushing the safety forward to turn it off, freezing water / ice, could hamper the function of the safety, and if it goes forward to release the safety, it could make the gun un-fire able, if frozen, or hunted in sleeting weather... If I don't get a response from Legendary Action Works, I'll look at trying to taper the original in that style ( not sure if there is enough meat there to do it ) I read an article, where they trimmed the factory safety button, & had that groove exposed... so it would take a little investigating to see what can be done with the factory safety button... I think the LAW button is a different casting I reviewed the article www.gun-tests.com/viewpoints/editorial/making-the-ruger-no-1-right-4/I'm still unsure if safe in the forward position, or the rearward position... if it's in safe in the rear position dirt or ice in the groove could lock up the button... if it's safe in the forward position unless it's frozen so badly the original safety wouldn't move, you should be able to take a modified safety off of safe in icy weather

Interesting... I got a reply today...
so I had to buy one there... it's on it's way
funny credit card company says no... on a "safety" for a single shot rife... not the 1st or 2nd choice for a mass shooting

A couple years ago I found a #1 in .44 Mag for sale and bought it, apparently Ruger only made a small number of them. I changed the front sight insert to an NECG white dot and obtained a rear express sight insert like Ruger used on the Boddington guns. With the odd stock geometry on #1’s I ended up with a Leupold variable scout scope being the best fit.
It’s quite accurate with cast or jacketed and looks like a scaled down safari rifle. It doesn’t really “coordinate” with either of my .44 pistols but shares ammo, brass, powders and bullets making inventory easier. The best thing about the little rifle is it makes me grin every time I pick it up.
Some how I think there would be lots of grin factor in owning a #3 in .480.

New safety button from Legendary Action Works... not sure of any geometry differences (maybe the thumb tab is further back???) but the longer front part covers up that groove in the receiver, that results from modifying the factory safety button...& this is supposed to stop larger rimmed cases from hitting the safety button, & not fully ejecting on the #1 & #3 rifles

Also been on the phone with NECG, & they are recommending a .708" diameter which should be a medium light profile for the .475" bore... the shop doing the work, can finish fitting a 90% stock, & since the factory stock was cut where the plastic but plate wraps over the top ( about a 1/2" ) to put a traditional recoil pad on it... I've been talking to Tree Bone Carving about a fancy Walnut, stock & fore end, with an Ebony Schnabel end... for the rifle
right now NECG is pretty much in stock on that diameter sight base, & Treebone Carving, is less than 2 months out on doing what I want...

I have a Leopold 1.5 X 4 on my 500JRH Encore carbine the eye relief is longer, an dimensions about the same as the red dot tube sights on my BFRs… thinking that will fit nicely on the “ace in the hole” base I just got

That's going to be a great gun....
Several years ago I got a deal on a .22 Hornet #3 that I was going to have rebored/rechambered to .327 Federal or .41 Magnum but it shoots so well a a Hornet I jut left it alone. Did send it back to Ruger and had a #1A stock set put on. Really liked the look of the #3 but the comb was just too low for shooting with a scope...

I looked at that yesterday, even the peep sight on the "Ace in the hole" base did not allow any kind of cheek weld, with the factory stock, so the Tree Bone carving stock will have at least enough of a raise to get a good sight picture with the peep sight...
I've been doing up Butt cuff's with cartridge loops for a lot of my rifles, I'll likely make up one for the #3 in 480 as well, with enough of additional cheek rise for a scope, or red dot tube sight, if I choose to put one on the base... as I mentioned above, I'm loving the 1.5 X 4 Leopold on my 500 JRH Carbine, & the compact scope is roughly the same size as the Leupold Red Dot tube sights, so if the #3 gets scoped, it'll likely be with one of those

At one time, Burris made a small rifle scope in several magnifications. It had a generous eye relief in the 6" area.
I liked them very much for TC Carbines and Ruger #1s.
I had one left in reserve when I bought my #1 475 Linebaugh. So, that's what it wears. But, I did have to buy an offset scope ring.
Have a friend building himself a 480 Ruger and had trouble finding rifle barrels in .475". Pac-Nor was the only folks that would even accept an order for one the length he needed.

I've had this one ( also a Pac-Nor ) laying in que for at least 3 years... I bought a couple, back when my retired tool & die buddy was still working, & we built (2) 475 WTH custom revolvers ( 475 barrels on 45 colt Ruger revolvers with the cylinders bored straight through, & using heal seated bullets in the full length 45 Colt cases ) in fact my buddy would like to sell his, as he quit working on anything several years ago... so that barrel was laying there patiently waiting for a project to pop up like this one...

The Leupold 1.5-5 VX-3 is my favorite compact rifle scope... Have them on leverguns, Savage 24, Tikka 412 and compact bolt guns...

I’m pretty nervous about doing the stock, the shop says “no problem”, but I’m going with a pretty fancy grade of walnut, and going with a fancy engraved silver colored grip cap, with “480 Ruger” and some scroll work done on it… so lots of fitting
I’m also considering doing a skeleton silver metal butt plate, instead of a rubber recoil pad… as long as the stock is custom, I can go with a longer length of pull, allowing the fitting on a plate… the current stock is shorter, when it had the inletting on the top of the stock, from the factory butt plate cut off ( which is why I had planned on the thicker rubber pads)… it shouldn’t need a recoil pad, with the 480 cartridges… but lots of fitting, and lots of additional cost
