No, I did not stumble across a two digit Colt SAA or anything like that! What I did find was just about as hard to find though. I had stopped in at my hardwood lumber supplier to pick up some maple for filling some Nativity set orders we hen I was walking up to the front and I saw a section of Koa wood that said Display Sample. This store has lots of other hardwoods such as Wendell, Bloodwood and Jatoba but rarely does it have the rarer woods like teak or Koa. In fact I bought the last pieces of teak they had last year and they have not been able to replace it. I gave never seen Koa wood for sale at this store until today. Apparently Hawaii has restricted the shipment of Koa lumber so the supply is very tight, especially in 7’ long boards like these. Whem I was in prison, oops I mean Hawaii, a couple of months ago I went in a furniture store t that sold Koa furniture and the prices were insane! $33,000 for a dining room table and $7000 for a 3’ long sofa table.
I picked through the boards the shop had and picked the gif boards with the most figure and reflectiveness. I also told the salesman to have the manager come up with a price for the other pieces I left and if it is better than the $49 / BF I paid for these, I would buy the rest of it. I may have to send done to Kim and Zane for them to transform even though I don’t have any guns to put it on nor do I need anymore knives!

gotta couple pieces of nice KOA in my hidi hole, 2 blocks of real nice stuff, big enough to cut a set of grips from each... & Zane always does an awesome job, but that group of wood I'm saving, in case I wanted to take up "small wood projects" after I retire... have some very nice walnut, & olive wood, always on the look out for anything with a pretty picture... been seeing some really nice Desert Ironwood around, but none has found it's way here... yet... good KOA, is a really nice score

I can remember buying teak in the 90’s for boat repairs. I paid $7.00 a bf, and thought it was outrageous. $49.00 bf is crazy to me.

I have seem some amazing wood in the shipyards. We used a lot of 12" x 12" x 48" timbers made of purple heart for keel block caps. We had more teak than you knew what to do with. I even have an ice bat made from purple heart. When we shut down that yard last year we sold off some great wood. No birds eye or black walnut unfortunately.

This store has a bunch of purple heart lumber for sale. I’ve used it done in the past but it is a little to “loud” colored for my tastes. If I can’t naked a deal on the crest if the koa then I think I’ll bug some of their Peruvian walnut next. Much darker than our normal black walnut, almost ebony colored.

A neat thing about purple heart is if you hit it with a a heat gun it turns a deep rich purple. It'll do it naturally in the sun in a few years but I like the heat gun method.

I learned that trick from a friend who works with a lot of exotic woods. I saw 2 identical pieces side by side and 1 natural and one hit with heat. Night and day. To me PH looks washed out what its in its raw rough cut form. Give it a try on a small finished piece.
