That's a big one for Western North carolina. That looks like it would rival some of the Eastern bears.

Gee,, you should have seen the one that got away! Actually, we do have some pretty big bears here in WNC. Not quite as big in general as our coastal bears,, but 300-400 lb bears are not uncommon. And 500+ bears are "around. The 600+ ones are a bit harder to find.

We got some really big bears in TN too. The one season the largest bear taken was 627 pounds. We have a bear problem in East TN. Instead of taking the bad Smokey National Park bears and putting them in bear refuges, they are sedating them and taking them to MY DAMN AREA!!!! They do other areas too. I had a bear literally destroy my apple three this summer and he also kill a fair size fawn deer this summer. I have these things going through my property all the time and so do the neighbors. I'm only 4 miles from northwest NC and I'm in the mtns. They also dig up yellow jacket nests not only in my fields, but also my yard!!!

I estimate the one who's hanging around my property at 450+. Didn't take the shot, but saw it at @100yds Saturday. We'll see if it comes back this evening after work. I've had two apple trees and a fig bush destroyed so far.

THAT would make one fine chair cover! Wow look at that shiny coat! Very cool. When I was in Tennessee I never got to see a black bear. Heard they were "possible" but never saw a track, den, nothing. Congratulations to the young hunter on his trophy.
I think if I had an apple tree destroyed I would have said I had to shoot him in a charge. "Yes Mr. Game Warden, he charged me and out of fear for my life I shot him in the butt; then I had to end it's suffering." Could you imagine the confused look? "Oh, Im just not very good with a handgun." LOL. And that is when the handcuffs come out.

"Oh, Im just not very good with a handgun." LOL. And that is when the handcuffs come out. Well TN wildlife seems to have changed their rules. Before you could get off easier shooting a human! You shot a bear out of season you were in deep kaka. Now, when we contacted them about the bear ruining my apple tree, they said if a bear is destroying your property, including your vehicle, you can dispatch him. I was shocked. I've never eaten bear meat and the stories I've heard around my area is you don't want too. I know they have to be cooked very well like wild boar do due to the various things they carry, but also many hear don't want to handle thems saying they are the most disgusting stinking things they've ever seen. Then I've been told if you cook them right they are very good eating. The one season the local county bear hunting group shot a bear about 150 yards from my mailbox and he went over 450 pounds. He had just gone through a cornfield and his teeth were more yellow then a Chevy Camaro in that color! Then said when they shot him out of the tree that when he fell and hit the ground corn came out of his ass. I think they were stretching the story a bit at that point. They have or had two bear seasons here in TN, one with dogs and the other without dogs. We recently just got a very limited Elk season. They imported some Elk years ago and got a pretty good heard going. One thing about East Tn and it's mtns is we don't have a wild boar problem, although TN does have very good boar hunting. I would have to travel probably 3 hours to get into the boar area.
