junebug,
did you hit the doe high in the lungs? i did in a 4pt with my 35/30-30 at 53 yards (200gr FN GC/1726fps). the 4pt jogged about 15-20 yards and he stood behind a tree. then he tried to breathe, but the boolit went straight thru and all i could hear was like sucking a straw at the bottom of the glass. then he fell over. i couldn't find blood either, but i did find it when i removed the diaphragm. i blame the placement of the boolit is on me. i should have gone behind the shoulder, but i didn't. i messed up and i will do better. i've shot two doe with the 35/30 and 200gr FN GC, 1/3 of the way up, behind the shoulder and they jog, leaking blood about 20-25 yards and then they fall down. i'm just happy that the buck didn't run!!!!

Yes the lungs, she was at 80 yds. Most of the blood seemed to have come out of her nose as she ran. When they really want to go they can cover a surprising amount of distance before there brain runs out of oxygen. Modern gun starts in about three weeks around here in Ky.so good luck with your season.

Each of my handgun caliber deer kills was with a .41, used Sierra 170gr, Speer 220gr SP, Gold Dot and XTP in 210gr. The Contender was a 10" and I used the Sierra bullet in that, now have a 14" but not hunted with it. Other barrel I have for the Contender is that gun's original 10" octagon which started as a .357 Mag, but dad had it lengthened to .357 Max which, with the original thin wooden grip with a thumb rest, is more than enough pain in the Maximum. I'd like to use it one day, with one of the better grips I've bought for it over the years, using a hard cast 180+ gr bullet.
