A few of these have popped up at the store. A 45 Colt has caught my eye. Are they worth taking home?

I bought one in 357 in 08 or 09 and, looks-wise, it was a decent gun. MY gun was a mess, but I truly believe it was an anomaly, as most others at that time were very pleased. I had to do a thorough rework throughout on min, but once it was done, it was slick and smooth and fed things it wasn't supposed to feed, by others' accounts. I believe that by the time I was finished, it was "better" than a factory stock rifle of the day, but I heard very few complaints of anything which could not be resolved with some use or some judicious smoothing. Since I sold or traded it to my brother, I've been looking for another, so I have pretty much kept up with how they are doing and I have not heard anything notably bad about them. As I understand the factory went through a big upgrade, so I'm guessing they are better today. AGAIN, mine was a fluke, I am sure, but it sure gave me an education on that 19th century contraption. I will say that it was the handiest, most fun and most useful gun I've ever owned without reservation. Here's a site with a dedicated sub-forum for the 92s. Michael Reamy (Ranch Dog) started and maintains the site, though he's not been as active since his father passed in 2020. The guys on this site are pretty die-hard Rossi 92 fans, but have always been honest and seem to be willing to admit to any flaw or problem without blowing it out of proportion, so I'd trust their most recent comment, though I've not been on the site in a while. rossi-rifleman.com/index.php

I bought one recently in .357 mag. Pretty cool, I have not shot it much, But the only change I have made was the rear sight. Using CCI Blazer Aluminum cased rounds a couple did not want to come clear out of the mag, but no issues with real brass. I sort of wish they had sling swivel studs on them. Mine is a 16 inch trapper model, I think I will like it, real well. Better after it get's a bit of break in time.
Look at Steve's guns...tj

I have a stainless 24" Octagon 45colt Rossi and really like it. It's even been through a fire and still shoots good. My only regret is that I should have bought a stainless 480 also when they first came out.
Fwiw, white labs proof tested the Rossi 45 to 50kpsi!

Fwiw, white labs proof tested the Rossi 45 to 50kpsi! ***** A typical blue pill (proof load) runs 40% over max standard pressure. Some proofs run 50% over. maximum standard load + 40% = proof* 35,000 psi + 14,000 = 49,000 psi proof load. * 40,000 psi + 16,000 = 56,000 psi proof load. Maximum standard load + 50% = proof* 35,000 psi + 17,500 = 52,500 psi proof load. * 40,000 psi + 20,000 = 60,000 psi proof load. David Bradshaw

My wife bought me a .357 last Father’s Day, it’s my go-to carbine for pretty much everything. It had a big loop and a “scout” rail. With a red dot and 158 grain XTPs over a maximum charge of H110, it will keep all the bullets where that 3 MOA dot touches at 100yds. It’s great with 38s (SWC, LRN, HPs, any bullet style I have tried) and has never given me a problem in probably 12-1500 rounds. 125 grain .357s over H110 come out of the muzzle at a shade over 2K FPS. 158s are 1800 or so if I remember right (have to look at notes from my chronograph). I love .38/357 guns, and this one is one of my favorites.

I have them in .45 Colt and .44 Mag. both 20in. Blued guns. .44Mag. is set up with a RDS to deer hunt with. Nice light and handy guns. I would jump on another at a reasonable price. Recently got a in-stock email from a dealer about a couple blue 20in. models that came in. 357Mag. guns, i wanted one, but not bad enough to pay 926.95 for it before taxes, shipping and transfer fees. But all of them sold!

I have an older Interarms badged Rossi in .357. Gritty but accurate. SS so kinda nice in an all weather sort of way. My most recent is a .44-40. Loads of fun. I'd love a .44 Mag.

I have 2 old ones... a blued engraved, saddle ring carbine in 357, & a brass & stainless octagon rifle in 45 Colt... both were unfired when I bought them, because they both had something wrong with the firing pins... I had that issue fixed by my retired Tool & die gun smithy buddy, & both have preformed well as CASS guns, so lots of rounds through them... the 357 fires the 38 Special reliably, as that was what was used for CASS... I've switched to 38 Long Colt, & tested the 357 with the 38 Long Colt, & they seem to feed reliably, but I've not shot a match since switching... the 45 Colt, being a brass receiver never gets hot loads, but I load mid level loads for CASS & it's still tight after a couple years, with lots of round through it...
