I recently posted on wait times from freedom arms and the lack / amount of guns on the auction sites as of the last four months. Rather than settling I ordered
FA 97, 327 federal, 4.25 inch barrel, fluted cylinder, round grip frame, express sites, gold front bead, action job with ebony grips FA 97, 45 colt, 5.5 inch octagon barrel, unfluted cylinder, square grip frame, express sites, gold front bead, action job with rose wood grips
I don’t understand why the 327 is about $400 more than the 45? Oh well at least I ordered what I wanted.. I’m sure the auction sites will be flooded with FAs now that I have to wait 12 months
I still could not decide on a 41, 44 special or 45 so I asked my 10 year old to pick a number and he chose 45, why I asked, he said it is a bigger number ok makes sense to me, why complicate things
Hope every one is doing well. Thank you to those reading my posts. I enjoy reading your comments.

Freedom Arms 97s get my vote as the best factory revolver available. Certainly, the 44 Special leads the pack. That's just my humble opinion.
The sights are very easy to change and I recommend trying a few to see which style you shoot the best.
Kudos on adding some fine ones...

After our earlier exchange I went and pulled the 4.25" .41 and .327 out of the safe...just a joy to hold let alone shoot...
The reason your .327 was more money was the options..round butt, cylinder flutes and black Micarta grip upgrade over the .45.......
Almost bought a matching .45 Colt/.45 ACP...but it was $3300...

Can’t ask much more than that in a factory pistol.

In my experience, there isn't much difference between the the 44 special and the 45 Colt - I have both. If I had to pick, I would probably lean towards the 45 Colt with and aux 45 ACP cylinder. Here's my 3 1/2" Round Butt .45 Colt (with 45 ACP cyl installed). . Also have a 4 1/4" standard butt 45 Colt - Got lucky, the 45 ACP cyl (which came with the 4 1/4" gun) functions perfectly in both guns. . . Think you are going to enjoy your acquisitions. . Paul

Love the 97 and a Barranti holster. I went with the cheapest to shoot and got the .22 LR with a .22 Mag cylinder

...if one was going to carry a SA for self-defense, Paul's Packer in .45 ACP could not be beat...
SMJ had one just like that earlier in the year and it was awful tempting...

As previously posted, the 44 Special is my favorite. But, the 45 Colt and 41 Magnum aren't too far behind it.
I've been thinking about sending my 45 Colt FA97 back for a 45 ACP Cylinder. Then having it cut for 45 Auto Rim.
The 41 Magnum is excellent. It makes about the best 41 Special a person could imagine.

No wrong answer between the 41, 44, and 45 versions of the 97.
One advantage to the 45 is the gun will weight slightly less, and you can load up lighter weight bullets to keep the package weight down. 5 225 grain bullets carry very different than 5 300 grain bullets.
That 327 is just how I'd spec one out. Round butt with black micarta is probably the best carrying version of these guns. Worth sending the cylinder to Bowen for a black powder chamfer. There really is no other custom work that one would need except a nice holster.

I shot buffalo buffalo bores 300 grain outdoorsman load out of my FA 97 45 4.25 inch barrel, while I shot worse, it’s a handful in that gun, wondering if the longer barrel and little more weight will make a difference. Don’t need that load in my area their standard outdoorsman load 255 grain Keith style is plenty, just curious.
