Pictures later… now to get a scope, and try her out… have over 1000 rounds of factory ammo to start with, but will be loading, once I get 100 once fired cases ( this is the boat paddle that I was working on quilted maple inserts, but the stock has been gone for 10 months ) so... I can get back to work on those inserts now...

When you get around to loading for the 7x57 try H-414. If you can't find any let me know. I sold my rifle. I think I have some dies too.

Thanks... I used to load for the cartridge, but that was in an older weaker action ( maybe a 92 Mauser )... so I have dies, but will be looking for a little more out of the cartridge now that I that I have a stronger action... my older loads were pretty mild... not looking for 7 Mag pressures, just warm middle of the road loads, that are capable of taking deer to elk sized game

I have had a few 7X57s, I would look at book loads to start, I think in a 98, I would top out at around 48 grains. I had a Ruger #1 A I pushed to 50 and got Just under 3000, But I think in a bolt gun, stop at 2800 ish...tj

Makes sense… I have more powerful cartridges if I need more power… I was loading pretty tame for the 92 mauser

I know it's kind of a personal thing... I have a tendancy to like scopes like this... what do you guys think of something like this on the Ruger 7 X 57 Vortex 3-15X first focal plane... scope... www.midwayusa.com/product/102064825?pid=704631

Depends on what you're going to be using it for, or more specifically at what distance, under what light conditions, for what kind of target.
Vortex makes good optics.
For me, I'm kind of a traditional fixed power scope guy when it comes to hunting rifles. And a Ruger 77 in 7x57, to me, just begs for such a scope. 4x, maybe a 6x.
