curious if anything can be done grip wise, or gun related ( other than powder horns ) with polished cow horns... one of the leather sellers I've bought stuff from, was just offering a bunch on sale...
just thought of it, but I have a couple boat paddle Ruger rifles... the inserts ( I have some custom made wood inserts ) are fairly thin, if the horn is too thin for revolver grips, perhaps it would work for stock inserts for those Ruger rifles, or it could be backed by a liner... anyone have cow horn grips, or used the horn for anything, other than powder horns??? some offer a pretty nice look

You bet! but you have to choose your battles. Flat pieces are small and thin. You're not gonna get any single action grips out of them. Maybe I or J frame , maybe Iver Johnson and if your lucky SP-101 and Gp-100 inserts. This was a cool reddish color horn, the only one I've found. To get it thick enough I had to laminate a piece of thin fiberglass (the red side) on the back as seen in the unfinished pieces below . The white looking I frame grips were thick enough only because they were narrow. I did try to straighten and flatten a few pieces but was mostly unsuccessful. If you find a proper piece for a project the material is plenty easy to work with and polishes very nicely.

I bet Fermin has some good ideas about what to do with those horns...
