So, took the family out to shoot this morning, and really liked the size of the Single Six 32 mag...got me wondering. I've always loved the looks of the OMSS with the drift adjustable rear sight, and think it would look amazing paired with one of Ronnie's brassie Lightning grip frames. Have any of you had an OMSS converted the 38 special? I know Gallagher cataloged that some time ago, and if I recall, he preferred doing the conversion on an OM due to interference with the transfer bar. Figure this is a 5-shot deal, and that I'd have to limit to "mouse fart" loads, which is fine with me. And before anyone suggests, one of the revolvers in the bag this morning was a Cimarron Lightning 38 special Any thoughts? Pics? Who would you recommend to do the work? Thanks in advance! Jamey

I've heard of it being done, but have never owned one.
For my preferences, the Single Six is an awful lot of steel for the sake of firing 22 LRs, I really like the OM SS with the drift-adjustable sight, the 38 Special is very versatile,...
It WOULD be a neat gun to own.

Way off base Jamey. Those guns can and have been converted to 6-Shot 357 Magnums!!!
Clements is finishing mine (N.M. Bisley) up in 38-44 as we speak. The 38-44 is nothing more than the 38 Special loaded to 357 Magnum Pressures.
That being said, some gunsmiths may only want to do a 5-Shot Conversion.
In talking with Dave Clements, the cylinders he builds are 6-Shot and larger than the S&W K-Frame or Colt King Cobra Cylinders. Both of those are 6-Shot 357 Magnums.
Hope this helps. Your idea has real merit. Could easily shoot a 158 grn at 1200 fps...

I am in the middle of having Huntington converting a NM Bisley 32 mag to a 5 shot 10 mm auto. Am told that it will get unfun to shoot before it over loaded.

357 Mag Single-Six??
That'd be the berries! I feel that even the New Vaquero is a bit much gun for the little cartridge - strictly a personal perspective.
I don't need a custom...

I went with the 38-44 for several reasons. A 38 Special length case being much more forgiving of bullet nose length pretty high on the list. Plus, the gun in general is stronger due to the cylinder window not needing lengthened.
There are no downsides to this conversion. I hope you follow thru with this one...

Oh well, looks like I'll be on the prowl for a drift adjustable OMSS RW brassie lightning gripframe, Powers Bisley hammer, about 4" barrel, nitred small parts and BM #5 base pin, maybe some giraffe bone grips...should just about be right for Jr's first "officially his" custom

I've heard of Gunsmiths declining building some bigger cartridges on that thinner topstrap model. I'd check on that first, then go for it...

Opening up the loading port Bob. Nope on 38 Special, only a 41 Special by Alan years ago. His first and only I believe.

Talked to John Powers this morning...said it's something that he's done a fair amount, and offered to be on the lookout for a donor. Now to convince Ronnie to make the Lightning gripframe for OMs
