Have had a stainless .500 S&W 20" Katahdin barrel for 15+ years and it is a fun gun to shoot. Have the same in blue in .405 Winchester.
Both are scoped with the 1.5-5 Leupold VX-III...have those scope on many of my rifles and never an issue...

Running a 1×4 leupold on my 450 bushmaster and no problems and its the cheaper one.

Speaking as a certified welder, I am surprised at the poor consistency of the weld joining the barrel to the block. Especially how much it thins towards the breech. It may work fine for years, but I would watch it for cracking none the less. Hopefully I'm just being a picky perfectionist

I'll keep an eye on it... if I were to guess, it probably requires no, or less machining to clean up the breach face if the weld terminates before the breach face... I could look, but suspect it goes fully to the muzzle end of the mounting block???
My retired tool & Die buddy used to machine the mounting blocks for contenders, where the barrel just threads into them... when he quit working I got all his tooling & a few examples of the blocks, I passed them on to one of my best buddies thats a fabricator / welder/ machinist, who has an interest in gun smithing... I'm not sure why that isn't a more common meathod to attach the blocks on both Contenders & on Encores, the blocks were realitivly easy to machine
I have several custom Contender barrels with the machined block system, & they work great

Scope & mount arrived today... a day early don't remember it saying, but must be an intermeadiate eye relief... 5-6 inches seems about right, just looking through it... aught to be enough to keep me from getting scope eye from the combination 500 Magnum, & light carbine

Got my scopes and mounts on the 500 barrel… pin is much tighter on my Encore than on my Contender's, but everything is smooth and nice
Curious if the hammer spur extensions from the Contenders also fit on the Encores??? It’s a little tight around the scope bell

picture of the carbine, with furniture & glass any recommendations for a leather butt cuff ( think the recoil pad should be fine ), but I don't like how "sticky" it is... looking for something quick to shoulder, & the tackyness of the rubber, I think, would slow down a quick shot... I had one custom made for my 45-70 Guide Gun, that adds a 1/2", has my initials on one side, backwards ( WAM ) & 5 cartridge loops on the other... been so long since I got that one, I can't remember where I got it... looking for maybe something similar

did a deep dive into computer arcives & found these old pictures... still don't know who made this... but think something similar would be perfect for my 500... I'll need to pull it off & see if can find a makers mark

Your new setup should work great. I had a 24" Barrel built for the 500 S&W as soon as it was introduced. Put a Burris Timberline 4x on mine. Has 5" of eye relief, so no black eyes...
