Just read an "article" in the latest issue of Shooting Times covering the 30 Super Carry.
Of course, the article was titled "Just Right."
I was a couple pages in before I could stop sniggering enough to focus on the words.
Now, I have no opinions on the cartridge itself. But, it's absolutely hilarious how all new cartridges are "Just Right." Heck, I remember when the 40 S&W was "Just Right."
The writer lost me on the first page when he quoted an unnamed CEO as saying "The .40 is dead. The 9mm killed it."
Again, I remember when the 9mm was out of favor and the 40 S&W was King!
Throughout the article, the 30 SC is described as nothing less than "Perfect."
I'll speculate that in short order this cartridge will be "Perfectly" forgotten.
I really enjoy a good gun read. But, there's a lot of difference between a gun writer and a used car salesman posing as a gun writer.
Just my opinion...

I haven't seen any Gold Dots available yet either...
That's the ONLY good thing that can come of all this.
Unless...you can put it in a Bearcat...

I can't imagine that working. At 50k and no roll crimp, that would be a disaster.
It would probably be fun in a small game pistol. But, that kind of hunting is really out of favor...

It's like the self-fulfilling prophesies of the fashion-world; whatever the so-called experts say will be popular next year IS what becomes popular next year because people believe it and start wanting it.
I don't pretend to be a firearms expert, but most of the people who are SUPPOSED to be a firearms expert make me feel pretty danged smart!

It's more like politics and only about selling guns. It's no longer about the guns themselves.
If the article is about a gun, then of course it's the best gun ever built.
If it's about a cartridge, then it's perfect in every gun so chambered.
It's the same formated article every time. It's like the old TV Series Dragnet, only the names have been changed to protect the profits.

The only thing I see that it has going for it, is in single stack magazines, and 10 shot limited mags, you get a smaller, more concealable piece. Not gonna reach for my wallet on this'n.

Nobody is. And Federal sees it.
Perfect combination of horrible market timing and ballistic capability already covered by rounds with worldwide use and a century head start.
But it can hold 2 more rounds than a comparable 9, doncha know!

It seems to me the compensated writers are the only ones not yawning. Maybe I'm missing something?
They've worked hard to kill the 40 S&W and I'm not a big believer in coincidences. We went from pushing the 9mm, to declaring it inferior to the 40 S&W, back to pushing the 9mm and now after breaking all 9mm sales in history, it's inferior to the "Perfect" 30 SC...

Unfortunately.......you just said it all. I like the “Warts and all” type of gun writing. I’m old.....I won’t change. My gun writer friend said the same. He has passed now. And I miss him and his style of writing.

I read that propaganda article. First he belittled the 32acp. I grew up with the 32acp and IT IS BETTER THEN THE 380! Trouble is in the U.S. the 32acp is under loaded. Shoot some European 32acp and see the difference. Same with 9mm. It's hotter in Europe. I have to agree with him the 40 S&W isn't doing all that great. Nobody want's the brass either. Why drive a six cylinder 40 S&W when you can drive a V8 10mm. Don't forget you can download the 10 if needed.
That is an extremely high pressure for the 30 Super. Only damn good thing I've see in the gunworld is they are trying to revive the 16ga shotgun, which they should have never talked out of the shooting world.
The Russian knew all about high velocity 30 caliber pistol rounds penetrating heavy clothing and tissue.

Everyone can and should buy what they want. I just don't care for manipulation.
All of this was to lead the reader away from solid, proven cartridges to something new and "Perfect."
Statistics can be made to show anything. It's just a matter of where the spotlight is aimed.
One article the author touts frontal diameter, the next one penetrations, muzzle energy, knock down power, etc.
All cartridges can be made to look flashy on paper. Same with anything. If anything this turns the knowledgeable gun guys away. But, this was written to the wannabes plain and simple...

I didn't read it and probably won't get around to it. I see those articles as getting someone to buy something and that's ok. Most of those gun articles are not written for this crowd.

And how is this any different than all of the new rifle cartridges that come out every year to sell more rifles? We don't seem to get upset when they 6.5 Creedmoor came out and the 260 Remington faded out? Or the 280 Rem came out to replace the 270 Win, or the 300PRC to replace the 300 Win Mag , or the, or the.
It is what gun manufactures and ammo producers to spark sales, we get to splitting hairs to see a real difference. Heck when was the last time someone thought about buying a good old 243 rifle? Well doesn't everyone know the 6mm Creedmoor has all of these advantages?
If it excites you and makes you want to buy a new gun and all the accessories to go with it fantastic, but it will most likely be another foot note in hard to find brass in 20 years. Or it will take 10 years to catch on like the 480 Ruger or 327 Fed did before it gets popular enough to be noticeable. We will see, I love 32 cal handguns but this one doesn't move the needle for me but I don't mind its having come out either.
