HOW BIG A SIN WOULD IT BE TO D&T A NICE WAFFLE TOP 35 REM MARLIN LEVER ACTION?

I’ve surgically altered one of a kind guns to fit my needs. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and your the one holding it! Make it yours.

I gave one away to a northern woods hunter who swore on his life it would never be d&t'd. I cared more about the weapon than the money. To quote the late Bernie Mac "Here at the Fourth Street Baptist Church we call that a sinny siiin sin.".

In most cases I would say get a newer one and leave the waffles alone but,,,,,,,. I believe in 35 REM the Waffle years are the only way to avoid the dreaded (at least for me) micro-groove. If getting old school rifling for lead bullets is the goal you may be stuck. Side mount peeps work pretty well for those if you can still see them. Or I think maybe Henry also fields a 35REM with standard rifling but is hard to find.

I wouldn't think twice about it but I've never been one to hesitate on altering to my needs/desires. Gunsmiths gotta eat too...

If I don't have my eyeglasses on, I wouldn't be able to find my car keys, let alone drive. If I let that physical flaw deter me from living a more productive and much more enjoyable life, I'd be a fool.
Not saying anyone else is a fool here, but if a fella NEEDS optics to shoot, it'd be better than having him out there slinging bullets into his vague and fuzzy landscape and would be better that he not deprive himself the pleasure of shooting for the worry over what someone else thinks. Why deprive yourself over a congenital or age-induced "weakness" which was not a result of your own choices?
If one has the means to acquire a very nice arm, and can put aside the pragmatic perspective that it would hurt the resale value, one ought to extract at least the non-monetary benefits of the arm and make it shootable.
ALL of these THINGS are ephemeral anyway. How many of these things we enjoy will be in a museum six hundred years from now? Who's going to criticize someone who perverted a "prime specimen," even a hundred years from now, and besides that - who cares if t he "next guy" who owns it after we're dead doesn't like a few well-executed, tiny holes, tastefully blended in with a few quality plug screws? Wat dead man cares if the next guy can't get an extra hundred bucks or so when HE tries to sell it?
Which is more important to the owner? Is it the intrinsic or monetary value, or is it the value in the possession and use of it?
I'm not immune to t he quandary and don't mean to come off as all-knowing. This may be why I personally have a soft spot for "cheaper" guns and ones which someone else has "been at" already. It's easier to tell someone else what THEY should do
Now, if "Ol' Joe, the mechanic," at the little lawn-mower shop, out on Frybar Road assures he can get all the holes "pretty straight" with his 6", stainless General ruler, a dull center-punch and a chipped twist-drill in his generic, Odd-Lots cordless drill-motor, then, yeah, THAT'S a SIN, even if on an old junker of a gun.
Man, I can't shut up sometimes.
Short Version: 1) It's (hypothetically) YOURS 2) Is USING it or RESELLING it more important to YOU? 3) Will it matter to you if the guy who buys it at your estate sale is irritated that you had it professionally D/T'd? 4) Is what someone else wants for that gun more important to YOU than what YOU want for that gun?

It's yours so if that is what you want to do I say go for. It's really hard for me to D&T a waffle top but if you want a .35 Remington with Ballard rifling there are not a lot of options. If you just want a good .35 Remington to hunt with and it doesn't matter if it is a mirco groove barrel then I say sell the waffle top and find you a factory D&T one.

I’d shoot it first or have someone shoot it, then if it shoots good D&T it, if not then sell it and look for another that way you’ve not degraded it’s value to others.

Interesting topic, Among the Guns my friends have on Consignment is a well worn, but totally usable waffle top in 30/30. In it's condition if I wanted to scope it, hell yes. Bot the 35 is harder to find. Lots harder, and if in really good shape, I would not Drill and tap it. However, the one my friend has also sports a crappy rear sight, I can't remember the nickname for them, but it is flat across the top, and has a small notch in it. Do they come drilled and tapped for a receiver sight ? I did not look. If it did that would be my choice. Find a Lyman or Redfield. The Williams work fine but UGLY...my 2 Cents worth, for free !...tj

I made that one up!
I almost wrote "Fangboner Road," which is a real road with that actual, official name - on the sign and on the maps.
I've never had the guts to Google the meaning or history of that one myself.
Just not sure I want to know.
