Oh, that sounds too exciting for me ! Too painful too. Maybe we should just morph this into unwelcome and un-fun adventures with wildlife type thread ? I've mentioned the 2 big black snakes that inhabit my 3 acres here. They are both out for the warm weather now. The bigger one slept in a week later and surprised me by boiling outta a split, hollow pine tree in the front yard where I was mowing Wednesday. I 1st met one of them while mowing around that tree a few years ago. Was on the Deere and it fell outta the tree and landed across my thighs. In the moment before "non-dangerous", "non-poisonous" and identified as a Black snake all flashed thru my mind, I'm sure I said a few words my Mom had not taught me.

Now bula,, them poor old black snakes weren't trying to scare you. I bet you scared them. In fact,, I'd bet they get together & share their stories of how humans scared them.

I agree. Vibration from lawn tractor woke him up. The one that fell on me was hunting the woodpecker holes. Raiding nests. I've caught him eating robin eggs in the maple tree and the trellis by the front door. If my wife ever comes out the front door and happens to find him there at eye level and only 2ft away. "Hell is coming to breakfast" time here. She doesn't have my sense of humor or affinity with snakes.

Funny, just in the driveway, nice and sunny day. My ole Lab and a toad were nose to nose and I was a few feet away about to click the pic and my phone went off. All 3 of us jumped back. If me and my wife are apart I tend to keep my volumes up. She was on her way to work, and called to tell me she was sorry for being grumpy this am.. She usually is not. She is one of the most even tempered, pleasant people I have ever met.

Coyotes in South Carolina and fire ants. Poison for the ants, lead poison for the Coyotes. No pigs in my area yet, but they are coming soon.

Those darn wood bee`s.... Below is a photo of some of the damage they can do... This time I used a 22 shot shells from K-22 instead of pellet gun. My hits went from 1 out of 10 to 17 out of 20

James,, those bees didn't cause all that damage. They DID drill holes,, laid eggs,, and the woodpeckers hammered out the larva. The bees drilled the hole in the bottom edge of the wood. To really work on carpenter bees to prevent this type of damage,, I've been using a product,, from a company called; www.logfinish.com called "NBS-30." I started spraying my wood for the first time in Feb the first year. I re-applied a spraying again in April,, and again in June. Last time that first year,, was in October. I started again in Feb the following year,, and then was able to go to May,, then August. I did the same routine the 3rd year. Now,, I just hit it in Feb,,, and again in June. It can also be mixed with stains for cabins etc. I haven't tried it mixed in paint. So,, while shooting the bees is FUN,, damages like shown are expensive to repair. I also enjoy using a tennis racquet to whack carpenter bees. Other pests & vermin,, around here,, groundhogs,, coyotes,, & crows are the major ones most country folks have problems with.

Don't forget Californians.... And those fire ants are no joke. They leave welts that will make you remember them weeks later. And let's not forget the flying ***hole (aka yellow jackets).

Question. Will one of the "salt rifles" work on Carpenter Bees? I've been killing them by the dozens with a plain old fly swatter, but that's a lot of work and I'd much prefer shooting them.

Both of which come for the habitat and food! I had some of Ashly’s Oryx steaks last night and they were great!
