Just purchased a 1957 production Ruger Blackhawk flattop. It is in nice shape, (no photos, yet) but missing the grip panel screw. Midway is out of stock and Ruger won't even sell me one unless I send the gun in for the safety conversion.
"I don't think so, Tim."
Does anyone know the length and thread pitch of said screw? My "guess" and I'm actually clueless...would be 1 1/8 inch, 4-40 Fillester. I apologize if this is repetitive.... Grips are currently held one with medical adhesive tape. Hopefully, some Goo B Gone will remove that without harming the original grip panels. Any suggestions?

I check eBay often for ragged out Ruger factory grip panels just for the hardware & medallions, and have amassed a good quantity of them thusly. A 57 vintage Flattop will have the blued screws/ferrules...And that's what you'll want to aquire for authenticity.

Well,, Ronnie beat me to it. I was about to go & measure one to get you the measurements.
A tip;
I add a nylon spacer inside the g/f, in between the panels,, to keep from over tightening the screw,, causing breakage of grip panels. I buy them a dozen at a time,, 1/2" long,, and gently sand off about .005 to allow for the often found polished g/f's that are just under 1/2" wide. The older plastic grips can be easily broken. Protect them.

Well, in the continuing saga of my flattop, I found out that the grip screw had been over-tightened and had pulled the escutcheon (sp?) through the panel. I don't think the panel is cracked but I won't know until I clean all the adhesive off. So now, I need to either epoxy the escutcheon back in place or try to make a "spacer" like contender suggested. Otherwise, the escutcheon will move just enough so the tip of the screw protrudes too far in the opposite panel. Oddly enough, I like the look of the original panels and the XR3 gripframe feels like an old friend, even though I have large hands. No problem with curling the little finger underneath, I've done that for so many years it feels natural.
Or just maybe I need to "pony up" for some wood panels....

If you decide to get you some wood grips, take a look at Zanes work, LSCG grips.
Got mine from him last week and really like what he did.

Does he have a website? Haven't been able to find one. I saw a YouTube video with examples of his work and they were things of masculine beauty and manly vigor.
