I went to the gun show, with the thought that I would buy something there or go buy the 10mm. Almost bought a 32 HnR SS-6. But left MT handed. On the way home , I stopped at guitar center. I met a guy with a sweet guitar I could not pass on. No new gun. But something I can and will use everyday. ...tj

I am glad I never learned to play the guitar, although I have wanted to learn to play bass. Like I need another expensive hobby

I always though bass guitar would be awesome to play but after 7 years of music lessons the teacher finally told me to save my money, no sense of musical timing! Oh I know all the notes, chords, keys etc , just cant put them all together into something that sounds like music. One of the things I am most looking forward to in heaven, being able to make joyful sounds!

Playing guitar is what keeps me sane. Music and emotions simply go together. Emotions being expressed through music is when it all connects to make communication; with yourself or others. Music without emotion is what you hear in an elevator; perfect notes without feelings. I have been playing for years, but I know no songs. I describe myself as a musicologist. I know more music than I can play. I start with a key and have no idea what I'm going to do next. My lady has said a hundred times, "That's nice, what was it?". I have no idea how to play it again.
My lady tells me she knows exactly how I'm feeling just listening downstairs to what I'm playing. Sadness, frustration, anger, all seem to just happen and come out.
I can drop my blood pressure and get my mind right by crawling inside my head. I'm awake, but there are no words in my head, only sounds and feelings. I have effectively turned off "The Voice", you know, that little discussion in our heads that never shuts up. I ask myself "Who's talking" and "Who's listening". Which one am I? Am I both?
I play for myself. When someone walks into the room, I come out of my inside and start thinking about the outside. Do they like what I'm playing, do they think it's too loud, do they think ... Words occupy my mind and not sounds. The music is gone for me.
As I have aged and arthritis has started to creep into my hands; making it a little bit tougher each day to make those chord shapes. I have begun to play a lot of slide guitar (using the steel bar). Anyone can play slide! It works great and I love it. I'm not quitting.........!
I really don't know what I would do without music. Outside of mantra meditation, music is my crutch.
Prescut I've taught slide to a couple of hundred people (from 4 to 88 years old); no money, but they have to bring cookies. I check them out a guitar from "the Library", which they must bring back or show me they've been playing. Trading up is allowed when they progress. Once I started this, I've been given dozens and dozens of guitars by folks who don't play and want to pass it on.

My son-in-law has a room ( a real genuine music/sound/recording studio room)full of guitars, two bands and does the worship team music at church--told me he is ready to buy a $4,000 guitar--never did I pay that much for a sixguns--so yes it is expensive!

Are those Fender P basses? Stunning ! Let's see, from left to right, top to bottom: Fender CS Jazz fretless, Fender CS single coil Precision, Fender CS Jazz Sadowsky NYC 20 fret Jazz, Mike Lull P54 w/added Jazz pickup, Warmoth/Fender homebuild, Music Man Stingray 5 string. There are more scattered around but these, and an 1860's upright, are the ones that get used. Tim

Since this thread has gone on to music, I'll post this here. If you like blues, check this out. Warning - it's a cell phone recording but actually sounds pretty good if you use good ear buds/speakers/headphones/etc. Anyway, this is the 'weekend warrior band' I'm in. This was a total impromptu blues jam by three of us. Oh...I'm on bass guitar. I'm playing a parts-build tele-bass. Randy www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAVhqUoRzec
