I picked up a beautiful smith and Wesson Model 24-3 4 inch today. Also came with a unfired 6.5 inch spare barrel that I believe I’ll have fitted to a model 28/27 and turned into a custom .44 special. This 24-3 has excellent deep bluing and a very smooth action. does something for me that a 29 with the bill barrel can’t. thought I’d share for all other .44 special lovers

I love anything that goes bang, pop, boom or pow. Heck yeah, sounds sweet! Maybe a pic of the new lady?

Sweet. I like that it came with another barrel.
I only have one N-Frame, a 544. That 5" tapered barrel is just perfect. The grips are just too big for me, I do better with a Hogue monogrip.

nice find! That sounds like a great gun. A guy here Locally had a 3 inch round but for sale. I wanted it, but timing was wrong money wise...tj

They are really nicely made guns... Back in the late 1980s when I had a shop in Texas I had the whole collection..24/624 3, 4 and 6" barrels... Carried the 3" 24 on duty for about two years in a custom G. William Davis Patrol holster... Sold them all off in the early 1990s when I switched over to .41 Magnum...
Guess it's why I like .41 Special so much...

I do have to give you credit Bob, you have some fine examples of 41 caliber and I haven't seen half of them!

I’m impressed by the quality. The action isn’t as smooth as a five screw but still very nice. my only gripe is mine has the orange insert in the front sight, I prefer all black. the blueing and case hardening is perfect it hasn’t faded or dulled like some. all in all very nice gun it’s my first n frame not pinned or recessed. As for the extra barrel I still say it’s headed for a custom build on the lookout now for a donor 28/27.

Guess it's why I like .41 Special so much... Bob ***** Bob.... reckon you meant G. William DAVIS, aka Gordon Davis. Brilliant leather work. I was introduced to Gordon Davis, at a combat match, Los Angeles, after the IHMSA 1977 Internationals, by the first World Pistol Champion Ray Chapman. To this shooter, Gordon’s metal-lined rigs rank beside the originator, Arvo Ojala. Speaking of N-frames, Ray Chapman had invited me to shoot with him after the IHMSA championship, one Saturday strapping on a Buscadero rig Ojala had fashioned for Ray’s 6-1/2” M-29. While Chapman was known mainly for his work with the 1911, he was no slouch with a Super Blackhawk or Model 29. Good company, as I had with me the M-29 6-1/2” used to shoot my first silhouette match. Ray, however, admonished me against shooting his falling plates with my M6-1/2” .44, as my ammo was the old Hornady 240 JHP over 22/H110. David Bradshaw

..my spelling error..
Am not sure if I ever met him but had many conversations with him on the phone in the 1980s as I was one of his holster dealers... He made about a half dozen of the 3.5" N-frame holsters for me to go with the guns I has sold as several officers where going to carry them in uniform... Probably the BEST revolver duty rig ever made. I still have my 4".
His belts were also fabulous....used to order 20 at a time and sell them at gun shows...
