My .308 Striker has a muzzle brake that I can close or leave open. It is frozen in the open position now from carbon buildup. I made a tool, sort of a modified spanner and have used it in the past along with brake cleaner to open it. Not this time it broke the barrel free from the action. I removed the barrel, then the brake and soaked it for a couple of days in brake cleaner to get rid of the carbon. Still can't get the brake to turn so, re head spaced the barrel and put the brake back on as is. Had to run the brass thru the full length sizer again to get them to fit the chamber, I usually only neck size my brass but no big deal. Now I get to go site it back in. So if you have a 516 Striker with a closeable brake open and close it on a regular basis and keep it lubed and clean, as they can and will seize on you.

Or acetone and ATF, half and half. And this probably belongs in other handguns for future searchers benefit.

Yes you are right. Never even occurred to me to put it there. I don't know how to move it there now or I would.

Brake cleaner is great but I would use Kroil Kroil is nasty stuff, and it contains benzene, but it’s the very best stuff ever to break free pretty much anything.

Yes it is the industry standard in plants along the Texas chemical coast. Corrosion is everywhere. My millwrights go through cases of it. Benzene is the least of my concerns.

As a millwright, I can verify that we keep cans of kroil handy. I also soak my molds in it. It penetrates the metal making the bullets fall right out, but doesn't leave wrinkles past the third cast like alot of other penetrating oils will.
