At the local gun show… things are pretty crazy, but one of the other sellers that regularly buys from me, made a big ammo purchase Friday night, while setting up… walked by his tables on the way out, and I hit the brakes… sitting on his table was a limited edition, in the box, Stevens Favorite, unfired… the newer ones with case color, and gold plated accents, octagon barrel, and medallion in the stock… even though I’m not a huge 22LR fan, I’ve always wanted one of these, and with the crazy prices of late, he had what I thought, was a reasonable price on it… we talked, and would see how Saturday looked… he didn’t sell the gun on Saturday, & while I had a good day, not enough in sales to bring the single shot 22 home… think we worked out a partial trade on ammo and cash for 1st thing tomorrow ( Sunday )
If things work out, I may get another single shot rifle… hoping I didn’t jinks myself, but I even made room on my single shot rifle rack for the lil guy…
You guys familiar with the gun I’m talking about??? Thoughts???

I have an earlier reproduction model with the half octagon/round barrel and it is a fun little plinker. Trigger is a bit heavy but breaks clean. It's accurate and it is a faithful replica, as I remember it as one of the first firearms I ever fired at age 6 or 7.

I did get it... NIB ( though the box was pretty rough ) the little bit I've looked, there is conflicting info out there... some say 10,000 Favorites, some say 1,000 Favorites of the limited edition made in 1971... even though the serials are in the 12,000's... I'm guessing a 1,000 made in 1971 is correct... I paid $700, in cash & trade... about $500.00 in cash & $200.00 in ammo trade... thinking that's not a great deal, but with things the way they have been the last couple years... thinking it wasn't bad... it's not been fired... I'll probably shoot it, but I have lots of others to shoot, so it won't be the 1st thing out on the range, & may still end up un-fired... depending I'll have to get a couple pictures... this is a stock photo off the www some info off a post on RFC... www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2554119&postcount=138

Very cool, that brings back memories! When I was a kid, my grandfather purchased an entire collection of Favorites and Crack shots and if memory serves, there were 40+ rifles in that collection. It was around 1985... I won't even mention what he paid for them!

About 1983 I bought a new Savage Model 72 Crackshot and 500 CB Longs, to eventually teach my 4 year old son to shoot. The trigger was lousy but cleaned up well. I also shortened the stock and started him on it early. He did real well with it but soon outgrew it.
When he left home I sent it with him along with ammo and a request to keep it busy teaching kids to shoot. The kids he taught are practically grown now, but the little 72 stands ready for the next batch to arrive.
The only problem this one ever had was the occasional broken firing pin. I think it's on it's 3rd one now.
