When I was going to rechamber a 329 titanium cylinder Dave Manson and I had a long talk on that coating. I may swap the titanium cylinder to someone with a 629 and then add a bit of weight to the 329 and the other person could lighten up their 629.........so many decisions.......
Anybody know the weight of a 629 cylinder?
Crap. Didn’t mean to derail..........thanks for the info

Good to know stuff. If I wanted to lose the weight, I could live with those restrictions.

Looking for info on the titanium cylinder I find there are lots of writings about them. With proper cleaning there should not be an issue with a 9mm cartridge in a L frame.

This is good info! I want to clean the cylender on a 329. I was going to try a soak in fuel injector cleaner.

I was hoping for a .32 cylinder, but no joy. Prescut I don’t know what the coating entails after machining

Picked up a S&W 986. Looking through the documentation I stumbled upon this: I have carried a Smith & Wesson 342Sc in my jeans pocket ever since it became available. Never considered cleaning the surface of the cylinder. Why would I want to?

Looking for info on the titanium cylinder I find there are lots of writings about them. With proper cleaning there should not be an issue with a 9mm cartridge in a L frame. I have several Smith 929s with mileage, my first one probably has 40-50k rounds through it and still shoots well. I check them all once a year for mechanical fit and wear. The titanium cylinders hold up just fine but you may see little spots show up in the chambers where the coating wears off. From what I can tell, this doesn't cause any functional problems. I know several competitive shooters who put more rounds through them than me and they haven't had problems. Unless you drop a double charge in the chamber, the cylinders will probably outlast their owners. I only know one or two guys who have actually had to replace them. Those guns had at least 80k rounds through them if I had to guess.

If you have specific questions about them let me know. Happy to help if I can.
