Just curious how you guys that know what burnishing is, actually do it…
I started with a variable speed Dremel and a medium grit 1” cone shaped stone, on slow to medium speed, I wet the edges with a good leather conditioner… I use Fiebings 4 way Care leather conditioner to gently round, shape, and polish the edges of my work…. Been 10 years or so, since I did my last leather projects, so just seeing if missed a better old way of doing it, or if there is anything new

Here’s my process for thick projects like holsters.
Sand the edges flush with a harbor freight 1x30 belt sander. Usually 220 grit. Then I’ll bevel the edges. Next I use a sponge with water to get a moderate level of dampness on the edge. Burnish with a wooden burnisher tool, the one with about 4 sizes of grooves. I start with the largest groove and work my way down through all grooves that fit the edge.
To me this is a good base to start from.
From here I move to a back and forth process between sand paper and the 4-groove beveler, working from 400 grit up to about 1000. Rewetting and burnishing after each grit.
Next I’ll stain the edge with either black or dark brown dye.
Lastly, I use tokonole to coat the edge and then polish with a piece of canvas cloth.

I had my friend that does woodworking make me one that stubbed onto a router bit shaft. I put it on a router table and use that to round the edges with. A little Johnsons Paste Wax between coats and move it fast so the wax doesn't burn. I dont perfect my edges much since I am making them for me. I am not trying to be a master leatherworker.

Thought some might find this interesting... or at least humorous... this is my 1st attempt at tooling leather & multi-color dying... it was just a scrap piece I had laying my my stuff from like 10 years ago... knocked out a quick key fob for Mrs to put in her valentines card... it's rough, & crude, but I bet she'll like it, since it was my 1st... BTW... the flowers got a lot better on the leather jewelry box I made my mother that year for Christmas ( like 8-10 years ago )... multi-color dying is definitely a challenge... I had to buy several better painters brushes... I'm not a painter
