My favorite is a Weaver 2x that I have on my 45 colt Super Blackhawk Hunter.
Otherwise, there are Redfield, Leupold, Simmons, Tasco, Bushnell, Burris.. They all work well if you can find one.

A 2x Weaver or 2x Burris is a good choice - the last I checked, the 2x Burris has the widest field of view available in a handgun scope.

Is there a reason for the 2 vs say a 4? A 2x Leupold makes the animal look further away to my eyes. I don’t use them on anything most of the time for that reason

All my 2x leupold have been replaced with 4x for that reason. That said, the 2x Burris doesn’t have that appearance to me.

Glen the big end goes to the back. Don’t think I didn’t look twice! I will say though. The 2x Leupold is one tough piece of glass.

The 2x Leupold doesn't feel like much magnification, but it's almost as fast to get into action as irons with the benefits of a single focal plane, finer point of aim, and better low light capabilities. I like the eye relief except on the earliest versions that seem to be a little short for my stance.
Still haven't found the perfect pistol scope. Not sure it's been made yet.

ON MANY SAFARIS I USED A B&L 2X WITH A LARGE FRONT BELL ON MY FA MODEL 83 454/45 COLT. GREAT 2X SCOPE, NOT MADE FOR MANY YEARS NOW.

Thanks I just realized it was “other than Leopold”. The weaver is really bright if you can find one. I have some on different guns. If I remember right, they had a larger bell on the 2x as well. Are you not considering any 4 or variable versions?

ON MANY SAFARIS I USED A B&L 2X WITH A LARGE FRONT BELL ON MY FA MODEL 83 454/45 COLT. GREAT 2X SCOPE, NOT MADE FOR MANY YEARS NOW. ***** Not aware of this scope. Was the Bausch & Lomb 2x made by Bushnell, with license to use B&L trademark? The B&L Elite 3000 2-6x32mm became the Bushnell 2-6x32mm when Bausch & Lomb ended its agreement with Bushnell. I found the B&L 2-6x32mm an excellent scope. I was able to dope (count clicks) up & down on 1/2-scale silhouettes at 50 meters, 100m, 150m, 200m, and back ,... with repeatability, a very tall order. (1/2-scale means quarter-size Big Bore.) There is very little backlash. haven’t shot the B&L 2-6x32mm on recoil heavier than .44 Mag. Carroll Pilant of Sierra Bullets (and the old IHMSA), had good shooting with the B&L/Bushnell 2-6, also. Pilant told me that he had aftermarket target turrets put on a 2-6x, which, loosened after much shooting. Leupold installed micrometer-click target turrets on an M8 4x29mm EER (Extended Eye Relief) scope in the late 1970’s, and it continues reliable. Leupold installed micro-click target turrets on a 2.5-8x33mm EER which have given me repeatable adjustments out to 300 yards. The sadly discontinued Leupold M8 2x19mm EER has friction adjustments, which, once adjusted hold ZERO. If there is backlash in a scope, I always finish my adjustment in CLOCKWISE ROTATION. Handgun scope----eye reliefLeupold 2x19mm----13” to 19”. Leupold 4x29mm----14” to 17”. B&L 2-6x32mm----@ 2x 15” to 20”; @ 6x 16” to 19”. NRA Rifle Silhouette competitors found the Weaver T-series scopes with Micro-Track possessed REPEATABLE, RETURN-to-ZERO adjustments required for their offhand, 100 meter to 500 meter, steel shooting game. I have used the old Burris 2-3/4x22mm IER (Intermediate Eye Relief), and the Leupold M8 2-1/2x30mm IER on the Freedom Arms M-83 .454 Casull, but only with .45 Colt cylinder. Jeff Cooper called an IER scope a Scout scope, and the appellation is now universal. Leupold, I believe, introduced the IER concept to provide an over-bore optic for the Winchester Model 1894, which ejects upward. Scout scope----eye reliefBurris 2-3/4x22mm----9” to 13”. Leupold 2-1/2x30mm----8” to 12”. To shoot a scout scope on a pistol, I rest the offhand humorus bone against my chest. The shorter eye relief precludes cannons----.454 Casull, .500 Linebaugh, .480 Ruger, etc. Note: measuring tape used for eye relief of scopes at hand. David Bradshaw

David, funny you mention Carroll. He is a good old friend of mine, and my source of .414 brass since Starline can’t decide to produce any currently.

Thanks Midway has a few different handgun scopes in stock right now. Personally Id go with a Burris given the choices.
