Dad bought one that year right after he got out of the Marine Corps, he still has it & even though I now have most of his gun's...That's one he's never been willing to cut loose of...Fortunately, it's in considerably better condition than that example!

...my guess it was a LEO gun...lots a wear, no flame cutting above the flashgap and little wear on the recoil shield.
I didn't think that S&W numbered Target stocks even if original to the gun. When I looked at the wear to that piece I knew they were not the original stocks before I read the narrative...
