I know the HAP bullets were designed for practice/competition and not hunting/defensive use. They are slightly different shaped in the nose as well but has anyone noticed one being more accurate than the other or if loads need to be modified at all switching between the bullets?
I run cast 98% of the time but have a decent stock of XTP bullets for most of my handguns and was able to buy a 500 round box of 9mm bullets yesterday for $65 so I thought what the heck?
I jumped into 9mm a few years ago with a Sig P365 with no intentions of reloading for the cartridge. Factory ammo was way too cheap to bother loading for. But that was then and this is now so I have a couple molds and have cast lots of 9mm bullets and have found the cartridge a bit finicky to load for.

I grabbed a load to try in my .401/10mm’s was hoping they would be the same as the XTP to use for practice/plinking. I need to get some cores cast and get to swaging, then I won’t have to worry about it! LOL!

My experience with HAP bullets in 10mm and .45 ACP/Super is that they do shoot identical to XTPs of the same weight. I did load development with HAP bullets and then switched to XTPs for final zero and carry.

ONE OF THE BIG REASONS I LOVE THIS WEBSITE, SHARED EXPERIENCES SO THAT WE EACH DON'T HAVE TO REINVENT THE WHEEL

Reloading 9mm ammo is one of the things I hate to do but I do it anyway. I almost never get ALL the steel casings out. At least one manufacturer I cant think of right now has a ledge inside their brass to prevent bullet setback when chambering. This results in a total mess on a Dillon progressive press if I dont catch it and can result in serious overpressure due to reduced case capacity. I dont remember all the other issues right now but I pretty much have to sit down and hand sort cases to the same manufacturer, then go load them. For practice ammo I use a load half way between start and max just to be safe. Even with all my safety steps I do I sometimes still get one load that goes BOOM instead of bang. Crimps are very sensitive as well. 9mm is my least favorite cartridge to load for.

The 124gr HAP bullets are very accurate in my 38 Super BDA

Personally, I would shoot and confirm. I’ve found the HAP to be more accurate than the XTP where I’ve tried it in 9mm. I also shoot them out of my P365. The only as or more accurate bullet I have found is the Zero 125 JHP for every 9mm I have owned. YMMV.
