Nephew inlaw just told me of this evil from another world bleep ! Something from a tick bite that makes you allergic to RED MEAT. The horror, really. A worst nightmare thing for this carnivore. How prevalent, range of offending vermin, etc., to google yet. Yikes !

The mother of a friend has that condition. I think she said it took about a year for her doctor to figure it out.

A map shows that me in FAR N.E. Ohio, slightly outta their range. A couple of easy winters ... Used to be no ticks within 200 miles. No fear of unless I took my dog to Va to chase quail. Now, can get "regular" ticks, here , but more at camp in Penn..

I heard a pod cast with Ted Neugent and he said his son was a full vegan for the same reason and that it was somewhat prevalent in his part of Texas. Very odd side effect.

To this meat eater, the side effect, symptom, is SCARY ! I wonder just how many tick collars I can wear, safely.

Hello Everyone: I live in the northeast and have hunted most of my life in what you can call Lyme Disease Country.
Permethryn is your friend. I have never had a problem because I have always treated any and all outdoor clothing with Permethryn. An ounce, well actually 3/4th of an ounce, of prevention is worth many trips to the doctor.
As a rule I make my own from a concentrate I buy from Travelers Supply. You can do the soak method or spray method. I will mix 1/2 ounce of permethryn to 18 ounces of water. Put it in a spray bottle and liberally coat my outdoor clothing.

X2 ^ son in law was diagnosed after severe gut problems! Finally narrowed it down to meat as he was logging everything he ate. Took almost two years before he can eat meat again

A buddy of mine has it. He loved his meat rare, but this tick born disease makes him not tolerate it anymore. He gets very sick

Big bore nailed it,……permethrin is your friend. Having to deal with feral hogs all the time and the fleas and ticks on them it is much easier to be proactive than deal with reactive.

Glad you mentioned the permethrin. I mix it up in the tank for the Gator to spray cattle. I might as well start using that on my clothes instead of buying Deep Woods OFF.

Strong Permetherine slightly burns my skin so I hang my clothes on hangers outside, spray hell out of em and let em dry. Wear them the next day without irritation. In the 50's, ticks were so bad here a short walk in the woods would change the color of your pants. My Grandparents had to burn the fields twice a year to control the ticks. Grandfather said it was pure hell and he was wounded in combat in WWII.
