Congratulations on the haul! I hate when you find something you like and they discontinue it! But I prefer that over them changing the item keeping the same stock number and trying to convince you it’s the same.

Oh great, those are discontinued too? That was my all time favorite go to bullet for high pressure loads. Well son of a gun. Glad you got some. We dont shoot high pressure 45-70 down here unless there is a problem hog and we go into the brush to get it. Rarely comes up but nice to know the firepower is there when you need it.

that's a score... they work perfect in my 45-70 BFR, & if they were more available... I'd be loading them all the time... instead I'm hanging on to the 100 or so I have

I have about 300 of those and 400 of the Speer 400gr for shooting subsonic 45-70. Last time I was at a gun show there was a box of 100 for $50 and I still kick myself for not getting them.

When did that happen? Obviously, I haven't tried to buy any in a very long time.

When did that happen? Obviously, I haven't tried to buy any in a very long time. Back around the time Remington started having financial problems.

Must have been MUCH later than that, like decades.

I’m glad they got to you, I’ve still got about 700 of the old Remington 300’s left, as well as some Hornady 510gr FMJ/SP’s I personally settled on the Speer 350’s for my Marlin 1895.

Thanks Trapr! ***** Have taken whitetail with this bullet, in Remington factory .45-70 load, from the diminutive Ruger No. 3 carbine. After messing with various 300 JHP and the Hornady 350 Round Nose, the old mosey along 405 punches like a heavyweight. Factory ammo adhered to the 1873 Springfield Trapdoor loading of 1,300 fps, which is much more pleasant to fire than the same bullet, hot rodded. Haven’t shot water jugs with this bullet, but suspect penetration should considerably exceed the average shotgun slug. David Bradshaw

Must have been MUCH later than that, like decades. The time that finally led to bankruptcy...I should have been more specific...😉

Things are getting dicey for a lot of classic stuff, with market forces much greater than we few, demanding more and more of a narrower and narrower ranges of cartridges and the guns that chamber them. Not just to be a "Debbie-Downer," but it is lamentable that so many cartridges, which were once pronounced "obsolete" by the gun-pundits, had sidestepped their own funeral processions and became readily available and popular - for a time.
My absolute favorite 6.5x55 bullet was the Hornady, 160 grain round-nose. My bother is currently punching holes in deer with what I had left from just over a decade ago, when I was buying bags or one hundred "blems" from Midsouth for..... seriously..... TEN BUCKS. They shot sub-dime-sized, three-shot groups (it's a HUNTING rifle) and they do the trick on deer, lumbering along at moderate velocities and pressures.
I've not seen those for sale for quite a long time - since the last drought, at least.
Great fortune for a member here, and through the doings of another member here. Happy day to see someone come across such a treasure!

How about a thread on supplies of classic stuff laid in during better times? One that comes to mind for me is the 35 cal 180gr single shot pistol bullet - don't know that we'll be seeing those again...
