My then 8 year old son got his first deer last January. He's now 9 and got his second a couple weeks ago. Out in blind this morning. Only seen one doe so far. Holding out for a moose elk hybrid type buck. No luck so far.
He had the perfect response to my wife this morning. She told him that she had a lot to do and may not go out hunting this morning. He said, "That's ok mommy. Stay here and relax while I shoot the big buck." She went hunting. She's also only seen a doe so far though.

With an attitude like that, he'll have many successful hunts in his future, very cool.

Oh yeah, thats how you learn em. My Son has been hunting deer since he was 7. If it has fur and is legal, it dies.

Son wasn't feeling well this evening. I stayed home with him and worked on Christmas lights while wife went out.
She saw several and shot the biggest doe. It is the first deer or living thing she's ever shot. She's had many opportunities before; but held out for the big buck. She can still get that big buck tomorrow or with a crossbow (she has a Ravin R26 that she is pretty good with); but she has now gotten one.

Sounds like your son has the right attitude!
And KUDOS to your wife on her first deer! Excellent!
