I just received my newest holster a week ago or so. It is the Tom Threepersons model from El Paso Saddlery: I had two complaints when I first got the thing. First was that the holster had too much drag when trying to draw the gun. I have since worked this out some by applications of neatsfoot oil compound to the interior and jamming the gun down firmly. But the feature that makes it useless to me is the extreme forward cant. This seems to be close to 30 degrees and is too much for me. When I grasp the holstered gun, I cannot easily reach the hammer spur with my thumb. This holster is well made, of course, as would be expected, but had I known the cant would have been so sharp I would have ordered it with a neutral cant. Also the belt loop is a mite too snug. My belt is 1 1/2" wide, which I ordered. A loop to accommodate a 1 3/4" wide belt would have been a better fit. I'd suggest you discuss your wants with El Paso Saddlery prior to placing your order. Bob,
I’m guessing here, but it looks like your gun is a large frame Vaquero? If so, I think they sent you a holster for the medium frame “New” Vaquero. That would explain the tight fit. Also I see the trigger guard doesn’t sit on the welt, another indication of a holster made for a smaller frame gun.
I have a Threepersons from EPS for large frame Ruger SA’s and my Vaquero drops in easily.
If they sent you the wrong holster maybe you can exchange, and get the cant you prefer?

You are right about the Vaquero. I ordered it for the medium frame Flat Top. I was using the Vaquero to maybe loosen it up a bit Here is the correct Ruger in the holster: I've been trying to make the thing work so not likely returnable. I did send them my problems and yet to hear any solutions. Bob Wright

What you ordered and what you have is very close to Tom Threeperson's original design. It was made to be tight fitting to the gun, tight fitting to the belt, and canted just as he designed. I have found as I've gotten older that the neutral cant is better for my wrist.

I'm sure you know this, and it doesn't work for some lifestyles, but shifting the holster around to 4 o'clock turns that cant into a natural position for drawing. The downs side is trying to sit with the holster and feeling like you're pulling the gun out of your back pocket.
I'd imagine a belt loop adaptor could be made, like a high ride drop holster, but that's not as clean as your planned rig.

Regardless or the original design, this was El Paso Saddlery's catalog photo: Therefore I assumed the cant would have been more like their photo. Had they illustrated the cant I woild have ordered neutral cant. Bob Wright

I like the forward cant of a Threepersons but I imagine not everybody does. I use a 1 3/4" simply rugged laminated belt. I like the tight loop, tight fit. Once I've carried a gun for a few months they start to fit right. No different than a good pair of boots, hat, or underwear. I've never bought any El Paso stuff because it is a mass production shop trying to disguise itself as a custom shop. Simply Rugged, Barranti and Rocking K Saddlery in AZ are tops. Simply Rugged's 120 with no lining is my absolute favorite single action carry holster, but I've read where others dislike the same holster very much.

That looks about exactly what I want. I prefer cross draw in the field, on the tractor, in the truck on the Kawasaki Mule etc Just works better for me.

My favorite is the Barranti EK5. Much the same as a Threepersons, but a neutral cant and his quality is excellent.

I have several of Barranti's holsters and one in the works. They are my first choice for everyday carry, the No. 1 Shuck being my favorite. Here is the No. 1 Shuck with the cuff, of band, for the Ethan Edward Model: And, the No. 1 Shuck plain Jane except for finish. I've asked Doc to leave these natural and I finish with Johnson's paste wax: And....... The banded No. 1 Shuck for my Super Blackhawk, with cartridge blet: The name Doc Barranti is well known at my house. Aw, what the heck! As long as I'm showin' off, here is the Ranger model from Doc, his rendition of the Brill holster: Bob Wright
