This is a hunt I was unprepared for. Dad and I went out to feed the cows around midday, and I decided to bring along the new drilling to sight in and this MGM 16 inch Contender to verify the optics. All went well and we decided to walk opposite sides of a stand of woods and see what we could flush out. Normally walking the woods would be fruitless, but with wet leaves and the rain coming down to mask noise we decided to give it a shot. Also, this is the first time in years I haven't had a hunting revolver on me. After a bit, I heard something big running left to right behind me. The large boar wasn't far from me, but he was moving fast in thick brush and the fixed 6x on the Contender proved to be a handicap. An iron sighted revolver would have put him down. Not too much further I saw two juvenile hogs just over a ridge caused by the creek embankment. One shot sent them both running. There was no crossing the creek bed at that location with everything muddy and slick. In the process of finding a route around it, I found the pig I had shot 20-30 yards away. I had given dad the drilling to hunt with hoping he'd see something, and in retrospect removing the scope and using iron sights and buckshot might've netted me two more pigs. My carbine was a G2 Contender with Tony's stock, 16 inch MGM barrel, Zeiss 6x in Leupold QD rings. Load was H110 and a 240 XTP. Pics show the carbine wet even before the real rain hit, the hog as he lay just clear of the thick woods, and the convenience of a modular gun- disassembled, dried, and oiled with only an Allen wrench.

Added to the list of "things I won't do again". Why? Pigs are on my list of can't stop doing. Killed them my whole life. Used everything from archery to rifles to handguns. Even more than a few with the Bowie, hatchet and even a lariat and ball bat before( not recommended).

I was referencing your reference to unpreparedness, bet you won't do that again. Whackin' pigs is good.

Between the piggs and deer, we lost alot of crops growing up. We had to fight back. Farming is hard enough.
