Thanks to y’all I can no longer look at a stock pistol without thinking about what it can become. Every Ruger I think about buying lately is about what I want it to be and who I want to work on it. It is even creeping into semi-autos. I found myself wondering if the new Springfield Hi-Power could be converted to a .45 Gap necked down to 10mm, kind of a short .400 Corbon. It is an addiction I tell you

Sometimes I wonder how these rumors start?
Enablers, Bad Influences and all sorts of misleading titles.

have looked at everything in the counter as a "base gun" for years...
When I bought a Ruger Turnbull Superblackhawk earlier this year the shop owner said as I was leaving with it "now Don't Shoot That!". I turned and replied 'you forgot who your talking to. This is going out to be modified by the end of the week'.

I have always thought the High power, would be just dandy in the .357 sig. I think it would be a difficult task to make it work in a high power. Feeding should not be a big problem, but I am afraid it would beat the gun up something fierce. But the old 40 cal high power would be the place to start, I think they hold 12 rounds. And with the assortment of bullets available there is a lot you could do with it. ...tj

WHEN I BUY A STOCK RUGER SINGLE ACTION I KNOW I AM PROBABLY GETTING A BELT MOUNTAIN No. 5 BASE PIN FOR IT, WILL HAVE THE CYLINDER THROATS CHECKED/WORKED ON BY 2 DOGS, WILL PUT A BOWEN OR BFR RS ON IT, WILL DO SOME TRIGGER WORK ON IT, AND/OR WILL LOOK FOR SOME NICE GRIPS, JUST THE BASICS.

Yep, just the basics. I have dropped to the level of buying spares of each of those with the exception of grips (and throats) just in case.... In truth, the only handguns I own that haven't at least been touched by me or a good smith is a Reminton 51 in 32 and a Walther PPK/s. I don't discriminate as I'll do it to a revolver, auto, or rifle. Sadly, I even started doing Cerakote as we had enough rifles and pistols that it was cheaper to just do it ourselves.

As a collector of OM Rugers,, I can easily resist the temptation to "modify" those old sweet sixshooters. Remember,, they aren't making anymore of them,, and they stopped making them in 1973,,( that's 48 years ago,!) But,, that's NOT to say that some of the NM's I have,, as well as a FEW OM's that were rough haven't received a little extra loving care or improvements. Still,, even some of the scarce or rarer NM's are also kept "as shipped" to help retain collector values. But I'm always on the hunt for a shooter grade in a model that's collectable as well. THOSE get a bit of work too!
Someone once asked me why I carry a Kimber compact 1911 as my daily CCW. It's an alloy framed gun, that due to carrying a lot,, shows wear etc. Looks crappy,, shoots fine. My reply was; "I don't want to have to USE the gun on someone,, and allow a good Ruger to sit in an evidence locker or having a bunch of LEO's finger fiddling with my GOOD guns!"

Cause you know when or if you ever get it back it is going to be scratched, rusted and abused. I can replace my little Ruger SP101 most any day of the week and cheaply. And if 5 rounds of fire breathing 357 magnum doesn't get me out of that situation, my tactics suck.
