Wanted to do a range report but ammo shipment is now delayed so just the gun for today . FA 97, 3.5 inch octagon barrel, round grip frame, action job, front gold bead with express rear, in 44 special. I wanted something smaller for hip carry when out bumping around the trails, taking in the fall season. So many people out this time of year I doubt I will run into any 4 legged wildlife but in case I do 255 grain Keith bullet 44 special moving at about 950 FPS out of the short barrel should do fine. a few people on other boards and at the range criticize me for spending that much money on a novelty gun as it was put to me. My reply, it’s not a novelty, has a specific purpose for ME and who cares, it’s my money. I generally buy things that make me happy, to each their own. Enjoy the pic and feel free to comment. Happy Thanksgiving. ps still deciding between a 5.5 inch model 97, leaning towards 45 but the 44 special is still not dead, so who knows. Attachments:

My FA-97 44 Special 5.5" is my most useful centerfire revolver and would be the last one I gave up.
My sanity has been questioned many times on some of my custom projects.
The reply usually involves them and the horse they rode in on.
Enjoy your gun...

Looks like a very practical choice to me. I really like the options you chose.
Do you have some leather picked out yet??

45 sir, 45. Nice gun, money well spent unless you wear it out in a few months.

Don’t really consider that to be a novelty gun at all.

Ask the person who called it a "novelty" if they would still have that opinion while staring down the barrel of it.
I dont think it is a novelty or a senseless use of money. I would say it would be the most controllable and accurate weapon in the arsenal. Not to mention probably the most economical to load for and a hit with a 44 special is better than a miss with a 500 magnum.

CRITICIZING YOU FOR A NOVELTY GUN TRANSLATES TO "I AM SO ENVIOUS OF YOU"!

Simply rugged sourdough holster, carry cross draw with hanks belt - next to two loads from buffalo bore - 200 grain wad cutter and 255 grain Keith style for some reason pic won’t load

"Novelty gun" huh? Well personally as a city dweller, & although some will disagree, I don't view my SA's as practical EDC's. But that's sorta' beside the point. Got other options for urban carry. That 3.5" FA97 / .44Spl, looks to be a real sweetheart - and if you have to explain that, they'll never understand anyway...

My M97 .44 special is 5.5". I do however have a 3 1/2" round butt .45 colt/ACP that I thoroughly enjoy. Accurate and versatile. . . Scoped it for load development. May look a bit funny, but it makes a handy, powerful and easy to shoot little package. . . Hope you get as much use and enjoyment from yours as I have from mine. Paul

That thing is Very cool, ! El Paso saddlery makes a couple shoulder rigs, that would be dandy for that guy, But for a gun like that, I would have 2 or three rigs, Doc, or Simply rugged, get stuff to you a lot faster, that El Paso does. Load up a batch of skeeters, and have at it !...tj

That’s a nice revolver, and I can think of several uses for it, none of them fall under the mantle of “novelty”. Taste is a very personal thing and it doesn’t make any difference whether it’s trucks, dogs, women, or guns. One man’s meat is another man’s poison. I’d have to call that revolver a bone-in-ribeye !
