I bought the same rifle years ago when they first cataloged them in '06 and 270. Mine being a 270 I sent it to the late Richard Nickel to have it rebored to a 35 cal with a 1:12 twist. I envisioned this as a heavy bullet, more than 250gr, 35 Whelen. N.O.E. and Erik Ohlen helped me with those heavy 300gr.bullets.
My sight system consisted of a Lyman 66 for the 1886 Winchester, which fit perfectly. I did however, have to have holes drilled and tapped for that installation.
I to, did not care for the front sight, so had a dovetail cut and a Williams shorty ramp used with a dovetail lock and a AO front with vertical stripe sight.
I found that I couldn't tighten down the screw enough to my liking to keep the front ramp in the dovetail tight enough. I could take my thumb and with alot of pressure move the ramp. NOT good, so I did what I should have from the start, Not liking the 24" barrel on the Whelen and not really thinking its necessary, I had My 'smith cut the barrel to 22" and solder on the base.

I picked up one of the original '95's recently in .35 Winchester and love it. It letters to 1902 by Cody as having left Win that year in .35 cal. Most of the Cody letters I have seen dont mention caliber, just SN and when it left Win.
I really enjoy shooting mine, lucked into some good brass, bullets are plentiful of course and it has a good shootable bore. Mine came with an original Lyman 21 sight, so was all set there. Got it off GB for $1800 thus and couldnt be much happier with it.
Also have a newer .405 take down with Williams peep, and an older Browning in the Krag, a really good shooter, no peep on this one, not drilled so I just used the barrel sights.
