Saw today where Remington Arms will spend $100 million to move their manufacturing operations to Lagrange, GA. (about an hour from me). Plans to hire almost 900 people in the next 5 years. Hope they can survive and begin to make quality rifles again.

I hope that they can successfully produce a quality 700 and 870 again.
My local Rural King has a new all black Remington 700 in 30-06 for $349. I don't need another 30-06, but $349 for a new Rem 700! I know that it's a recent produced rifle. Kinda makes me question the quality. I considered buying it to blueprint the action and rebarrel to 25-06.

Jim Stekl retired from Remington R&D years ago. Various members of Singleactions know Stekl from the Bench Rest Hall of Fame and developer of the Remington 6mm BR (Bench Rest), .22 BR, 7mm BR cartridges. Stekl built two prototype XP 100 pistols, which he brought to the IHMSA 1980 International Championship (organized by the illustrious silhouette director Ron Ricci). It is not that Remington didn’t know how to build fine firearms in Illion, New York. Count Jim Stekl as one of the hard core gun mechanics caught on a carrousel of struggle for quality against upper management more interested in playing golf than building guns. David Bradshaw

I wonder what a gunsmith would say about the action if he took it apart and inspected it

As a Georgia Resident I think that is great. As a Georgia resident it pains me think about the quality of labor in the southeast. I have seen several companies struggle or fold do to lack of employee's with technical job skills. Especially Machinist. Hope Remington makes it back to the Glory days of the 50' which was way before my time. Either way,out of NY is a good thing.

Hope they turn over the fish tank and give a finger on their way out. Also hope this is a wake-up for the state regime.

I just put a barrel on a new long action 700 receiver and all I can say is wow! That receiver is flawless. As soon as I opened the box, I thought it was a custom action
