Having lived overseas the last decade and a half I haven't gotten much range time and even less time hunting. Since being back at the beginning of the year I've put in a good bit of range time relearning things I used to be very good at. All of my shooting needed polishing but my handgun skills were especially deplorable. My shooting has improved drastically over the last 9 months with at least of magazine of something going down range almost daily. This being my first hunting season back stateside I've been putting in as much time a field as I can to get my field craft back up to snuff and it's starting to pay off. I took my first deer in almost two decades a week ago, and got my first sixgun critter today. This fat fellow decided to sass me as I was walking out of the deer stand this morning and caught a 120gr RimRock keith in the butt of the ear from my single seven Bisley for his trouble at 35 long steps. I've shot revolvers for many years but never at game. Quite tickled to see what all the fuss is about!

It's a cunning little bugger. I stoned the action and trigger to smooth it up and remove the creep, added a belt mountain base pin, crescent ejector rod, and fiber optic front sight. The Hogue grips feel great but don't fit perfectly, just haven't been able to bring myself to send the grip frame off for custom grips yet.
I like it so well I cut the barrel on my stainless 22 Bisley back to 5.5", and commissioned a 10mm single five Bisley with you guessed it a 5.5" barrel from Jack Huntington which hopefully will be here by the end of the year (headed to Mahovsky's for metalife as we speak). For my purposes that trio will do 99% of what I see myself needing done woods bumming and a normal hunting season in Maine.

Congratulations! It's always great when a person gets their first handgun kill. I started long ago,, and it was squirrels at first also. Now,, keep at it,, and by next year,, maybe you'll have the confidence to leave the rifle at home &only deer hunt with a handgun,,,, (hint, hint,, push,, push,, shove,, shove,,!)
