Ok, this absolutely surprised and impressed me this morning.
The #1 was shooting less than stellar groups. I rebedded the forearm and it cured the problem as it usually does. It's an easy job and worth the time spent.
Then back to load development now that 1" at 100 yards was achieved.
Leverevolution Powder is by far the velocity champ in the 30-30 WCF. Hodgdon's list 38.5 grn with a 150 grn at 2512 fps in a 24" barrel. Their load is compressed due to the deep seating 30-30 Bullets.
I was using Hornady 150 grn SSTs in the #1. They don't seat nearly as deep as bullets designed for Lever Guns.
I found I could inch up powder charge without compressing it. So, I did so in 1/2 grain increments.
Once the powder touched the bottom of the bullets, I stopped. Never been a fan of compressing powder.
Velocity from the 22" barrel was 2585 fps and groups were outstanding.
This puts the old Lever Gun Cartridge in a whole different class...

Wow, it sure does, I'm still using win 748 for the 30-30, running a bit over 2200 fps, I believe, and since I just bought 8#, I'll be using it for quite some time, however if I see some leverevolution, I may have to pick up a pound, this is a Henry, and it has been picky when it comes to powder and accuracy, the 748 is the favorite so far. Using Hornady 150 gn interlock.

This is crowding early 300 Savage Loads. Truth is, with the High BC Bullets, it probably does match it at hunting ranges.

Mr. encore- I congratulate you on having q #1 in .30-30. It's a rifle on my look-out list since I like the idea of rimmed cartridges in this fine single shot gun. It should certainly do about anything a hunter needs in a medium rifle.

I started using LeverRevolution in the Grendel a long while back. Using 123 grain bullets (heavy for caliber), I've never found a better fit. Really good powder for both accuracy and velocity.
Going by the burn rate charts it seems to slow for how I use it, but in use it doesn't act slow. Goes to show that a burn rate chart is only a guide.

Actually, I use it in my 6.5 Grendel too. My particular gun is a CZ 527 American.
Velocity and Accuracy are both phenomenal in this little gun.
Leverevolution Powder does need barrel length to work. The velocity gain per inch is higher than most powders. I've found the same true with Lil Gun...

I have a buddy of mine who grabbed one of these when they first came out. I remember him saying with spitzer bullets and the strong No 1 the 30/30 became a entirely different beast for him. I seem to remember he ran 150 or 165 gr Nosler Partitions and seated the bullet long so he was .010” off the rifling lands and it shot tiny groups at over 2700fps! Certainly no need to crimp in the crimp groove, these won’t be pounding in a magazine box or tube.
He said brass life was shortened a bit but 30/30 is plentiful. It has been a super handy ranch/stalking gun for him that has shot way more than its share of pigs and whitetails.

Encore64: Which version of the #1 in 30-30 do you have? The SS or the earlier blued one?

I haven't gotten to 2700 fps. But, switched primers and the same load produces 2600 fps. Doubt any animal could tell the difference in 15 fps.
I found three bricks of CCI #34 Primers bought back in '94. Switched to them because they need to be used first.

Absolutely got to love the Ruger No.1! I've heard people say that they don't shoot - which is a bunch of bull. I've had several, & with a bit of load work, all were sub MOA.

A lot of us just dont know how to make them shoot, get frustrated and give up. Myself included or I would have kept my 257 Roberts.

Interesting that you say this. I've had two friends buy #1s in 257 Roberts and neither could get them to shoot.
I declined to buy one because I have them in 250 Savage and 257 Weatherby already.
