I just got a 1911 back from Jack. He sent it USPS. He had put a small parts envelope in the package that didn't make it to me. The package looked funny. I called him and asked him what type of tape he used. Someone went into it and took the small envelope.

I gave up my FFL years ago. But can you still ship USPS on a C&R?

Nobody has mentioned ShipMyGun.com. It's a subsidiary of Bud's. You just buy a UPS shipping label from them that goes on your package at the UPS Customer Center.

I've used shipmygun dot com. It was fairly expensive, fairly inconvenient and a little strange.
They are very clear that you have to include a copy of your driver's license in the box. Which I'm sure gunsmiths throw away after they scratch their heads. They insist that you take it to a very specific type of UPS location, which I think also unnecessary. The customer service is just Bud's gunshop, if you call and they aren't that helpful. They include a letter from UPS CEO to show the people you drop it off with if they are unfamiliar with their own policy. The whole thing is awkward. Also, on the website you select which size box you want to receive but when you pay, the receipt says use your own box, they no longer send them.

I just bought my first double action revolver from my LGS and admittedly paid a little too much for it, but it was my way of saying thanks for helping me ship my guns USPS when they need some work done.

However, if the Smith sends their FFL in, they'll be added to the list.

As this thread started in 2021, haven’t both UPS and FedEx stopped shipping handguns for individuals or did I dream that ? My memory is not the best but it seems I read that somewhere. The last couple that I had to ship, I just let my FFL handle it, he’s a friend and it was the cheapest way for me, if not the most convenient.
The postal service has gotten so bad, I’m afraid to ship anything with them, much less a quality firearm. I ordered a Holosun red dot and I got an empty box. The postmaster knew that the box had been opened and was very nervous about the whole deal. I believe either he stole the sight or knew who did. My belief is that if it had been stolen before it reached the post office it simply never would have arrived.
Then there’s the holster that I ordered a couple weeks ago that hit the post office on a Saturday with my physical address instead of my PO Box where I get all of my mail. I have lived here 28 years and everyone in that post office knows who I am….small town. Instead of holding it for me, they send it back, or said they did, early Monday morning. I caught the address mistake on the notification email from the manufacturer and called the post office promptly on Monday morning. They aren’t open Saturday or Sunday, so exactly when did I have a chance to pick it up ? The manufacturer has still not received the holster that was supposedly returned. Another theft ? I don’t know, at least gross incompetence and stupidity. Complaints go unanswered, they are unionized and unable to be fired. Perfect recipe to be stupid and lazy.
Sorry for the rant guys, but damn do they aggravate me !
