Just got the call from John Linebaugh that my revolver is close to being finished. I'm really looking forward to it! Last decision I have to make on it is what kind of front sight I want to have him put on. I have a choice between a regular ramped front sight, his rendition of the Keith #5 front sight, or a not-quite-vertical sight with a steeper face angle than the ramped front sight. I was curious if anyone here had mulled over the same decision and what decision you had come to. For reference the gun is a blued .500 Linebaugh with a 5.5 inch octagon barrel. Personally I'm leaning toward either the standard ramped or the Keith #5 style, but I'm all ears! This will be my first true custom.
I am also a new member here. I am a big fan of all things six-guns, and have enjoyed reading the various forum posts for years before joining.

Either of those would be my choice. Standard ramp sights kinda grey out on me.

I would go with one of Fermin’s front sights but that is just me

Welcome Sir. If you like Cannons, you are going to love 500L. Especially built by the man who brought it to the table for all of us! Still my personal Fave!

Agreed! Nothing like a handful of 500LINEBAUGH. Load it up, or load it down, it does it all.

Always been partial to the steep faced front sight over a ramped front sight.

Had the ramp on my first gun and the steep ramp on my custom order.
Prefer the steep ramp but haven’t tried his #5.

I appreciate all the responses so far! I have a BFR in .500 Linebaugh that I put a Fermin front sight on that I love. It has been handy to have around to practice shooting techniques to manage the recoil but I think I've gotten it down now. If I can figure out how I'll post a picture of the BFR. I will be at the shoot in June and John said it should be available for myself to shoot there so I'm really looking forward to that. I've never been to the shoot before so I'm looking forward to enjoying a few days with like minded folks and learning all I can.

I'd like to point out how the top serration leaves a perfectly crisp undercut image and how all the serrations are impeccable. Fermin does it right where so many others do not.

My personal preference would be for a bit more parity between base and blade. The blade being that tall just looks out of place and disproportionate.

I put them on all four of my BFRs, several Single Sixes and two Bearcats...

Trapr Nothing on a BFR looks right Seriously nothing. But I agree, in general a sight base that comes up to the height of the top strap gives a good line.
