At the risk of offending a number of people on here, I just never warmed up to the 41 Magnum. The problem is that one of my favorite guns is so chambered. It's a Harton #5 with Persinger ivory and is one of the most complete guns I own. I've talked to Alan about rechambering to 45 Colt, and while he seemed willing to do it the cost was a deal breaker.
Since I haven't shot it yet I decided to sell it but when I went to take pictures of the gun the other day to post it I got weak and put it back in the safe. I have purchased bullets, brass and dies for the gun but didn't want to shoot it if I was going to sell it.
Right now the gun is in limbo neither being listed nor shot. Anyone else having these first world dilemas?

Uh, not really...
That's a beautiful gun and I'd be setting up to load 41 Magnum and 41 Special. Of course, I already do because I'm a big fan.

That’s one of the finest firearms I’ve ever seen. What a stunner.

I absolutely love that gun!! To my eye that is the greatest custom ever!!! As a matter of fact, I saved some of the original pictures of when it was on Gunbroker. Hopefully that's not creepy.

I remember the auction well. I was in it up until the end. after I lost the auction I never thought I'd end up owning it! Not creepy at all that you have pics of it. I saved all the auction pics

Ok my #5 by Alan is a near twin of your gun, shoot the gun, you will fall in love with the cartridge!
I really don’t care for the 38/357 but it comes in so many great, classic guns I end up shooting them a lot.
As far as the 41 goes I have always been sort of meh about it but then they seem to be universally accurate (chambers seem very uniform). But a 210gr bullet at 1000fps is a pleasure load to shoot but then can easily be stepped on to over 1500fps if desired. I honestly run a 250gr LFN in my Blackhawk at 1000fps most of the time and it shoots marvelously. What’s not to like?
But in the end it is about the gun not the cartridge, it would be shame not to enjoy that gun. Mine is the most accurate single action I have ever shot and it is alway pure joy to shoot. I had mine for 8-10 years now and I’m guessing roughly 10k rounds through it. Just shoot it, you won’t regret it.

When you get down to it, most magnum (and some Special or black powder era) revolver rounds fill the same role. I've ended up with more ammo types to load than I'd prefer, but I buy the gun I like and load to feed it.
A Harton 38-40 is a favorite. Sure, I'd rather load 44 Special with carbide dies and skip storing the brass and 40 cal bullets, but the gun is worth the trouble.
If I could turn all of my favorite single actions into 44 magnums or 45 Colt overnight, I'd pass.
My vote is to enjoy that gun as-is. 41 and 44 magnum are nearly equals, and there's not a lot of situations where a 45 Colt is needed that a 41 would fail. A little mental block is no reason to ditch a gun as nice as that, so figure out a way to think of the 41 that lets you enjoy the gun.

Is the carved bull head really on the left grip panel, or are the pictures reversed? That would make it a left-hander's revolver, wouldn't it?
Also, I can't imagine you shooting much 41 mag without really, really liking it. My favorite cartridge, period.

carved bull head is on the left panel. I think often times people will have the carving placed on the off hand grip because they're not sure if they'll care for the feeling.

BEAUTIFUL REVOLVER. I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST THE 41 MAG, I JUST DON'T USE IT.

41 mag is one of my favorite deer cartridges. Had more drt dumps with a 41 than anything else and I have shot a lot of deer with a pistol. Shoot the gun, take it on a hunt and get that mental block out of your mind.

Man, that's stunning. I'd go crazy over a 41 mag like that.
So, who was the original owner?

Not sure who had it built. I missed out on it when it was auctioned than it was sold again a year later and I didn't have the funds. Kings6 eventually took pity on me and let me have it:)
