I used to try to overlook the little flaws, but ended up struggling late one year to keep shots on paper with my 475L. This was right before the Whitetail opening and I was grinding my teeth down to the nub. During one particularly bad range session I went to put the big gun back in the range bag and came across an ammo box with six rounds of Speer 400gr Deep Curls. I shrugged, loaded them up and sat down on the ground 35-40 yards from a fresh target. After struggling all morning to keep all the shots on a paper plate, those Speers printed in a group I could cover with a Dixie cup.
I try not to let the flaws slip past so easily nowadays.

If you do lose some of the e-clips, the hardware store has replacements. At least the one near me does.

I use a small hot plate with a piece of channel iron on to heat the mould while I am heating the lead in the furnace. Once I start pouring the lead into the mould I check each one until I get the bands filled out and the base filled out and flat. Only takes a few pours to make sure the mould and lead is correct, I empty the mould checking the base, then re fill it. Then I roll the last ones dumped and check them as I push them to a pile away from where I empty the next dump. I like 2 cavity mould because I’m not as good with the larger heavier ones. Usually only get a very few bad ones which I cull out then. Here is where I’m different from the rest of you. I was taught by the master Dick Thompson himself. I have sat and chatted with him as he is casting many times so I would observe his actions. The only thing he does completely wrong is that he is left handed and casts with different strokes or movements. His bullets are all left handed where mine are right handed. He just phoned me to go to lunch so enough here. Happy casting.
