I have shared in the past that my wife is the Volunteer Coordinator for the free medical clinic in Salem. Like everyone else, they have had to adapt to telehealth, masks, plexiglass etc. Through their work with the local hospital she learned that they were going to soon have access for one of the covid vaccines for their staff and volunteers as front line workers. Earlier this evening we were sitting down relaxing when she got a phone call from the clinic lead stating that the hospital was willing to administer vaccines to the staff on short notice and if she got down to the hospital in the next ten minutes she could get the her first shot. They also asked if she had someone else in the house who wanted to get it. The reason behind this is that each vial contains 8 doses and all the doses have to be administered within 90 of the vial being unsealed. AS it worked out, I ended up getting the next to last dose out of the vial my nurse was using and the neighbor got the last dose. Since the majority of the doses given tonight were to the targeted group, they felt it was better to use the last few doses on spouses rather than waste them. Thus I GOT STABBED! Literally the most pain free injection I have ever had in my life. After getting the shot we went into another room to schedule our second dose in 4 weeks then out the door we went.
I have not lived my life in fear of the Covid virus but after seeing how it has wiped out my farrier yesterday when he came to pull shoes and trim hooves and hearing his story, I decided to take the hospital up on the offer.

My wife received her second shot on Monday morning and I’ll get mine later this week. While neither of us had much in the way of side effects with the first dose, she did have chills, a headache and fatigue for about 36 hours after the second injection. All were relatively minor and she was able to continue working so I’d say that’s a small price to pay if the vaccine works as advertised.

The front line thing..IMHO, this pandemic, like warfare, has gone asymmetrical. My wife, an at risk person for sure was a grocer checkout. She quit just before Thanksgiving because people would not wear masks, stay behind the shields, distance, etc.. Wanna guess where all the doctors, nurses etc shop ? I have gotten the regular/normal flu shot for many years, for many years flu free. Will keep watching this thread.

Well, I had the pleasure of doing Covid from Dec 3rd to Dec 17, then my wife from Dec 7 to Dec 21. Self isolated through Christmas. Around New Years we fully were back up to speed. In all honesty I've had worse flus, but I would rather not do any flu again. First flu I've had in 20 years. Had a host of symptoms, one day at a time. Glad it's over. Celebrated the new year at the range today, and no I'm not taking the vaccine.

I'm one of those unfortunate people that have actually had it twice! The first time it took forever for them to figure out wjat it was because I first had symptoms in November 2019. I just thought I would die for 3 months. Then I got it again back in September but recovered mostly in about six weeks. My point is that if you can keep catching it then obviously there's no immunity to it building up. That shot might give a headstart on your body fighting it but it won't prevent getting it. It going to give people a false sense of invincibility that's going to lead to more spread at first until some learn. Others never will learn

I will take the vaccine. My two sister’s families have all had it. It put my brother in law in the hospital. I am the only one left that hasn’t gotten it.

There is a paperback terrorist/espionage book of fiction here. The good guys save us in a nick of time thing. Good for the genre. But as this covid thing unfolds, it is eerily like the book, minus any good guys sadly. It has left me suspicious of the vaccine due to where the whole thing started. To take my thoughts further would be to annoy Lee, so.. I do hope, at work, they do not make it mandatory. I may volunteer as I learn more, but do not like the idea of being forced to put a drug in my body.

My wife was vaccinated about a month ago. I haven't yet; but probably will at some point.
There are probably lots of other ones; but I've told many how eerily similar some parts could be to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six book. The world is a scary place where there is legitimate reason to question who and what to believe. I would anticipate that to become even more true as technology continues to advance, power / wealth becomes more concentrated, and the boundaries between acceptable / unacceptable behavior become more blurred.

Wouldn't be the first time pharma has had a substance approved that was not tested thoroughly. I trust the FDA about as much as the FBI, ATF, etc. EDIT: For those of you who are vaccinated, I hope for the best in the safety of the vaccine.
