This came home today, very nice made in 1996. Looks like someone did some work on it then set it aside. Beautiful trigger with smooth cocking. Had a locking base pin, but also the original which I swapped back in, not really being a fan of having to have a tool along to pull the cylinder. Also found that the ERH had to be removed to pull either pin. I don't remember having any Ruger's before requiring that. I think but not certain that the chambers have been reamed as Hornady XTP bullets that mike .4525 with micrometer, almost but not quite stall out on the way thru, but its close. Using a dial caliper in the throats seems to confirm. Lacking any better way to do I will go with that. Also found it fitted with a free spin pawl, not really a fan but I will get used to it. Does anyone know if Ruger ever shipped these guns with that feature or is that for certain aftermarket?

Nice NLC, can you take a picture of the pawl. I doubt Ruger shipped that model out freespin.

For sure aftermarket or altered pawl, pretty sure you have to remove ERH on all New Model Blackhawks and Vaqueros to remove base pin?

Though my Flattop .44 Special comes out. Been a while since I had one of these. As to the pawl, I too would guess its aftermarket, but I remember a range buddy insisted that Ruger did install them for a time in a Blackhawk. I aint going to worry about it, just get used to it.

Looks like it has been drilled and tapped to create the free spin feature

The New Model Blackhawk Flat Tops (357, 44 spl, 45 colt) and New Vaqueros (not the 44 mag) are mid frames and are shorter in length.

Got one just like it. No free spin pawl and my cylinder comes out w/o removing the ejector rod housing. They're good 'shooters'. You'll like it.

I have a little problem with the term "free spin pawl" as all Ruger New Model Blackhawks, Super Blackhawks, Bisleys and Single Sixes will spin freely when the loading gate is open. Pre-73 Guns will have to be set at the loading notch but will spin freely.
There is an aftermarket accessory that will allow the cylinder to rotate in either direction. I'm not sure what this is called other than a "reverse spin pawl" maybe? I think the new Wrangler has such a device.

The so called free spin pawl allows rotation in both directions. And its silent, no clicks.
