For the last few years I've been using an old Schrade I inherited from my uncle, and skinned a critter or two but I've really been feeling the need to make my own. I mean, that's what i do to pay the bills, right? That's part of the problem, of course... end of the day last thing I feel like doing is busting out another knife. Uncle's knife has been fine but there's been no sense of urgency. Anyway, I was digging through the toolbox for a wood chisel when I came across an ancient Green river Skinner, it's blade pitted and black with ages and loose scales. I thought, 'Wouldn't take much to fix this up...' Then it occurred to me it wouldn't take much more to just make a new one, so that's what I did. I traced the old knife onto a random piece of O-1 tool steel, grabbed a chunk of antler and some nickel-silver rod for the pins and went at it. Pretty happy with the result. I put a sheath on it, and this weekend I'll see if I can't rustle up some work for it.

Very nice ! Classic. Reminds me of the old Remington skinner here, from Granpa.
