How about a 327 maximum? Would be super flat shooting, good up to deer size game. Should be over 2000 FPS with a 125-130 grain bullet.

THE BIG LIMITER OF MEGA FAST CARTRIDGES IN REVOLVERS ARE THE BULLETS, WHAT WORKS IN A NON-REVOLVER, e.g. A SINGLE SHOT PISTOL, AT MEGA VELOCITY MAY BE A TOTAL FAILURE IN A REVOLVER. GOING ACROSS THE BARREL/CYLINDER GAP AND THEN INTO THE FORCING CAN BE VERY TOUGH ON A REVOLVER BULLET AND THE FORCING CONE. FREEDOM ARMS USED TO WARN ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS, AND THEY MADE THEIR BULLETS HARD.

TO LEE MARTIN: A FANTASTIC READ. FIND IT VERY INTERESTING THAT THE XTP's, WHICH ARE NOT KNOWN AS HARD BULLETS, PERFORMED SO WELL ACCURACY WISE AT THOSE VELOCITIES. PERHAPS THE HAIRLINE BARREL-CYLINDER GAP AND/OR THE SHALLOW 8 DEGREE FORCING CONE ARE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. YOU MAT HAVE MENTIONED IT, BUT I AM NOT RECALLING IT, SO LET ME ASK: HOW ARE THE FORCING CONES HOLDING UP?

There's no barrel face erosion. The cones are holding up well. But I have maybe 1,000 rounds through mine. My dad has far less than that on his. I doubt the 8 degree cone makes any difference. We cut that angle on a whim. Seems to be no better or no worse than the 11 degree cones we use on our other bottleneck conversions. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

I'm not sure how much different it would be than the 30 Carbine is now if run at full tilt. I played with my brothers USFA and ran some 130gr bullets at 1500fps+ from a 7 1/2" barrel and felt like there was more to be had if one was so inclined.
The issue I see here is the bullets, a hard cast bullet would be the only real option, and they are my preferred type of a bullet anyways.
Lee got excellent accuracy from the XTP bullets but how would they hold up on game? Jacketed bullets are all made for 32 mag velocities and I think are a being pushed pretty hard right now with the 327 velos and trying to keep jackets from coming apart, add 3-500fps and they will just all but explode. So make it a .308" diameter and then you have some rifle bullets that become available but I doubt you have the cylinder length to make them work very well or they are deep seated so far you lose powder space and probably get into the walls of the case as they thicken as you go away from the mouth of the case and you are back to the 30 carbine. Plus the muzzle blast of 30 Carbines is known to me more than a bit rude.
Interesting idea but I dont know. Might be an interesting gun to pursue but I would envision it as strictly a gun for vermin not game animals you had any intention of eating.

I don't hunt, but if did with my .327 Meteor it would be on varmints. If the bullets explode on impact, all the better. Personally, I'd never use these small .32's on deer. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"
