I called Freedom Arms yesterday and asked about sending my 50 AE in for a 500 WE cylinder. I have been wanting to do this for years but have just kept putting it off. They will do it and have a two week turnaround but I was informed they were out of brass and had no supplier. I already have dies and a shell holder for the 500 WE but without at least a few brass to reload I don't want to send my gun in to get a new cylinder made. Has anyone heard about a potential brass supplier?

Can't help but have a related question: what's the case life like for the 500WE? Different animal than a belted magnum bottle neck case given no shoulder to bump back and forth to steal brass from the web.

You might be able to start with loaded ammunition and go from there.
Reed's shows three loads on their website.

Judge look here at this thread. singleactions.proboards.com/thread/23504/500-wyoming-express-brass-discontinuedQuote from that thread: I might be the guy texasdude 74 is talking about. I don't believe I've lost a case since 2005. John Taffin and I have the first 2 guns retrofitted with 500WE cylinders. I believe my body will give out long before my several hundred cases do. I've had 3 WEs; still have 2. Glenn, I think I need the othr one back. Whichever way a fellow goes, I'd still recommend going with the 500JRH. Availability of brass isn't likely to be a problem there ever. Especially with S&W brass as a potential parent case for cutting down if necessary.

The 500 JRH in a BFR is the clear choice here. Shortening 500 S&W Brass is a quick and easy chore. The BFR accepts the rims as they are.

I have revolvers chambered for 500 WE and 500 JRH. I load the exact same powder and bullet weight for both. You will not see any difference in performance between the calibers and you can always make cases yourself from 500 S&W brass.
If all you want is a 500 full length case I'd suggest you send your gun to JRH and have him fit you a 500 JRH cylinder.

It should be possible to trimm down the .450 Marlin brass to get a .500WE case. The belt dimension are similar.

I got a 500 WE last year I've been able to keep an eye out and pick up a few hundred pieces since I got the revolver. One lone box came from FA. The rest was from GB, and 2 online sources. Sadly I dont remember the 2 sources but the one was out the last time I went back for more. The last lot was from someone selling off some virgin brass still in the box from FA. You never know. Someone may have scratched their itch and will part with the gun and brass soon. But I'm sure the JRH will be more plentiful for the short term. When I spoke to FA they were looking for another supplier to make the brass but that was a year ago.

If I could pick up 100 brass that would more than likely last me. I won't be shooting it a lot and won't be hot rodding it.
