©05/20 white marble and granite Having walked among the veterans in Anzio, Luxembourg and Arlington, I see them all resting in the shade of white marble and granite.. Passing in silence I wonder what must I do to deserve the honor to sleep among their company. It’s a gentle walk where the heroes lay, their broken lives in neat array.. We who survive, young and old, remember their courage, firm and bold. “Drape the flag across me” was their last request, “play taps softly, lest the nation does forget.” This Memorial Day let us take a moment to honor those young men and women still standing on guard – remembering at the same time with honor, of all those before who manned the ramparts before.
