I had posted this in the Hi-Jack thread but a couple folks suggested I move it to the Lounge so here it its.
Worrisome nights start this Friday. That is the day both my oldest son and his wife both leave for deployments to Afghanistan. Different bases for 5-6 months. Ashly has been in quarantine on base while Rem has been quarantining for two weeks at their house 10 miles from base. Ashly and her 70 some crew will take a rotator while Rem and his 45 members will fly their own planes. I think this will be Rem’s 13th or 14th trip over there and his first since switching to flying the MC-130J from the MC-135. Ashly flys the Osprey and both are part of AF Special Ops.
Three weeks later my daughters husband also deploys to Iraq for his next visit to the area. Strek isn’t part of the Specs Ops but he flys the Pavehawk for the ParaRescue group. Like Rem and Ashly, Strek will be the Mission Commander of his deployment group so all three will spent less time flying their birds and more time directing crews but all three will still spend part of the 5-6 months flying missions.
If folks can remember the kids in their prayers we would sure appreciate it.

This will be the first time that all three kids are deployed at the same time. While deployments are not new to us, as parents you still sleep lighter and no matter how much you tell yourself they are Gods children and in His hands you still find yourself worrying sometimes.

Prayers, ...of course. And thanks as well. Not only for those going in harms way but those who love them and wait their safe return.

My family truly thanks them for their service to our Country. You can bet they'll be in our prayers.

I got off the phone about an hour ago with my Son-In-Law as he was waiting on the tarmac to load up with about 100 other airmen for their deployment to Iraq. They fly to Kuwait where they will go into 2 weeks of quarantine for heading to Iraq for the next 5 months or so. I know you guys will remember all three of the kids in your prayers but I am just as worried about my nearly 6 year old grandson. He was only a year old when his daddy went on his last long deployment to Afghanistan so while he was gone my daughter and grandson came to Oregon and lived here from Scouts first birthday to just before his second birthday. Since then his dad has been on cross assignment to the Navy so other than short training trips, this is the first time in 4 years Strek has been gone from home. In the last few months Scout has started making the transition from mom focused to dad focused. If we are face timing and his dad comes home it is "Bye Poppa, its Daddy Time!" AS it should be! Still, it will be tough on the little guy and I hope the feelings aren't manifest in behavioral issues. Hopefully they will get to spend a lot of the time here in Oregon and if they do, so long contracting, hello fishing, hiking and camping!
