Received an email from Dave Clements last night. He's nearing the end of my next two customs from him.
Several have questioned my sanity, but these will be in 38-40 and 44-40 WCF.
The 38-40 will be stainless and have an auxiliary cylinder in 10mm. The 44-40 will be built on a Blued SBH and have an auxiliary cylinder in 44 Magnum.
I realize there is limited interest in these two ancient hyphenated cartridges, but will report on these when they arrive.
Lots of thought have gone into these two guns and will have a few unique features.

I myself like the old .44-40. Now considered an under powered cartridge for deer and such by many people, I'd like to know how much meat was "put on the pole" back in the day! And it is a proven man stopper. In my original 1873 Winchester and 1894 Marlin, it is a very accurate and fun cartridge to shoot. My single actions aren't too bad either! I'm looking forward to some pictures of your new projects!

The bottle neck cartridges in large frame Rugers would offer hand loading opportunities of much more power than traditional SAA frame sizes............

Clements built my OM 44-40. It has become my favorite SA.

Clements built my OM 44-40. It has become my favorite SA. As mentioned, this one will be built on a N.M. SBH. It will have a slightly oversized, 6-Shot, Line Bored Cylinder. Expecting a very sturdy gun and Clements' quality is the best on Earth. But, will limit pressures to 30K in respect to the case wall thickness. I expect 1300+/- fps with my chosen 250 grn cast bullets.

Always had an interest in the 38-40, but have never pursued one. Seeing what you have done with yours over the years have proven it quite capable, as well has Lee's work with it. In my opinion there were many things that led to the decline of these cartridges. Not only inconsistent manufacturing (chambers, brass & dies) but uneducated reloading and safety played a huge part. Same as with the .40 caliber straight revolver cartridge Elmer Keith had talked about, people were afraid it would make it's way into an old 41 colt, so they upped the size to .410 for the 41 magnum.
I'm sure they will be beautiful! Now what are the added features!

I have four revolvers in 38 WCF, a Buckeye, a Horvath conversion on an OMBH and two Bowen customs on OMBH's, plus a Bowen 44WCF on a OMBH. Lots of fun!

As Fermin will attest I have been pondering a midframed, round butted, 4” Bisley in 38/40 for a while. Probably would do extra cylinder for it in 10mm as well but mostly just for a 180gr bullet at 1000fps. Would be a very pleasant gun to shoot a lot.

I've learned not to underestimate the 10mm, especially in a good revolver.
Seating the 200 grn out and using Longshot Powder, I've gotten 1300 fps from a tight revolver.
Some use 296/H110 in their 38-40s. I settle for less velocity as I still prefer 2400. I can easily push my favorite (200 grn GT Hollow Point) bullet to 1375 fps from a 6.5" barrel.

A few suggested a mental check up for me too. Several thought paying for a line bored custom in 44-40 was a little questionable.
On the other hand, I would rather that than a 475 Linebaugh or other big banger. Heck, we already know what they'll do.
The 250 grn GT Hollow Point is too long for my Colt and Uberti Revolvers when seated in 44-40 brass. But, fits nicely in the longer SBH Cylinder. This will eliminate ammo making it into the wrong gun.

Anything Dave Clements puts his mark on is going to be top notch. It doesn’t look like many more of us will be getting an e-mail like yours. Congratulations. Enjoy!

I've got three more there, but after that who knows.
Id sure like to add a Clements 41 Special in time.
Next in line is a Bisley Hammered 357 Magnum O.M. done sort of Elmer Keith Style, a Bisley Blackhawk Hunter 45 Colt and a Bisley Stainless 44 Special.
Trying to do revolvers in the old Classic Calibers.
Time will tell...
